For your perusal. I ended up only running through the tune once, although I have been told it should be done twice (AA,BB,AA,BB) as I took all morning just to get this far on the recording. Thank you for your input.

Nice done, Ripton! XD
I like your left/right hands incorporation and the tone. Intonation is awesome too (i see You can hear when You're out of tune - it's very important, because that way You'll fix it eventually).
If You'd like to have some critique: tempo is not even during the piece, though i'm not really familiar with it, so i can't tell if it's meant to go faster and slower, but i'd recommend for now to try to hold the even tempo, that will be very useful later =)
Also (i tell it to everyone, including myself =)), if You lifted the bow above the strings - try to put it down before playing a note (that will reduce the bouncing a lot).
Keep up the great work!!

Thanks for the kind words and advice. Mad_Wed, yes my timing has always been one of my biggest struggles. I did emphasized the altered tempo for effect. Not sure how well it sounded, but that's a good point of working it out evenly. Always need to work on the bowing which goes right into FM's comments. The piece does not have any slurs, but I will ask my instructor about adding some in. The piece is her arrangement. Not sure where the tune originated as I can't even find another play of it online anywhere.
I'll work on this a little more and post an update in a few weeks.

Hey, this is great!
Is this just a popular Massachusetts-area tune? Cause I went to YouTube to see if I could find more on this, and all that popped up was a performance by some great Kids from the Pakachoag Fiddle Band!
But, then I did a better sound comparison at thesession.org and found it under the name "My Kindly Sweetheart" (aka. The Gentle Milkmaid).
So, there's fiddle sheet music for anyone who wants to learn it in Bm - just tried it and I really like it an octave lower (starting with B on the G string).
When you get it up and running, consider starting a Party with it - I'd be up for joining it!
...haven't felt much like recording lately, but I need to - way overdue. 🎃

lol, that was my old school. My instructor's arrangement. It was kinda awkward for me being the only student in the 50s and all the other students in grade school/ high school. Do you have a link to the video? I can't find it.

That's great!
Figured you at least knew about the school.
I saved the video, thought it would be easy to learn from. 🎃

I'm really glad you posted a video of this tune again!
Don't think you missed the sequence, just
could have repeated the whole thing again.
I enjoyed listening to you!
THANK YOU!
I really like it - decided I better try it, myself, before I forget again. (lol)
So, I listened again, to some different versions of this tune (aka. The Gentle Milkmaid) on YouTube and I, personally, still like the 'Pakachoag Fiddle Band' version of "My Dear Sweetheart", the best.
I am confused, though - about your version starting on 'E', instead of 'B'.
Are you playing a 'second voice' version?
Cause, I hear it start off: B, D, C#, BB, C# - B (B), D, F#, EE, F#... whether it's started on the G string for Viola (or violin), or the A string for violin.
Do you have anymore information on this tune? Origin? Composer?
...btw, with all the recordings I've done this last year, I'm now down to where I only need about 10 retakes. 🤣

The arrangement was written by my former instructor who is the director of the Pakachoag Fiddle Group. You can sort of see her off to the right of the screen. PT A is the milkmaid and if think PT B is Jaques' Wedding. I took notes on my sheetmusic at home. She did publish a book of "her" tunes I can try to find the book of your interested

Thanks!
I am interested in the sheet music.
I'm still a bit confused about starting on E instead of B - after seeing the versions at thesession.org and video of the Kids playing here.
Sorry, I just see what you are playing is different from them - was wondering if your instructor made up your arrangement as a Viola part for harmony?
