So mistakes and laughs included ! Obviously lots of work needed and total mess at the end but I’m enjoying playing it. Thanks for watching !! Oh also I’m out of tune in places .. basically it’s a work in progress!!

@Katie L, that was really nice. I love your videos. I am not that far into violin, so, I really can't offer any assistance, I am thinking you are looking for assistance. It was lovely. I could hear your feeling during the piece. Nicely done.

@Katie L -

Nice to see you found another cool tune to learn!

Are you really comfortable?

I know how frustrating this can be - and I don't think it's easy to tell what combination of chin rest, shoulder rest and violin position works right away.

Thanks Mouse so nice you can hear some feeling in my playing ! I’m pleased !

Thanks for watching Emily I don’t think I’ve ever felt more comfortable to be honest. I laugh I mean we aren’t supposed to hold the violin with the hand etc and we need to make sure there is no tension with the neck and shoulder and some how we are supposed to be able to have a violin somehow balance around the shoulder! I was reading the other day about being able to play without the head on the violin and I’ve seen players do this.. how???? What are we supposed to hold the violin with ?

@Katie L Sounding good--great tune to work on!

Comfort is important, and finding what works can be a challenge.  And playing stuff you like is important, too. Etudes can drain motivationsmile, so mixing it up is good.

It’s not unusual to change your setup as you go along; what you find comfortable now may change.  Please keep in mind—if you are finding now that you are holding up the violin with your hand (can’t tell if that is what you’re doing), you will have trouble when you try to go back to practicing vibrato (you mentioned putting that aside right now) because your hand needs to be free to move.

Characterize people by their actions and you will never be fooled by their words.

Katie M

Very good, playing pieces you like so help motivate a person,  so, keep it up.

Thanks Mark and Sharon for watching . Yes I’m always messing around with my set up it’s the biggest battle for me. And I just want to get on and play. I like sailing I’m hoping to play it at a birthday party next weekend. Although it will take a lot of courage! Thank you for your comments. Maybe I should start a sailing party !! I’d love to see other versions !
