Changed the hair on my bow today.  This was my first time doing this.....and it was so much fun, I think I'll do it again when I get some more hair.  Yeah, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
The bow is two years old and maybe needed it, but it seemed okay to me.  I just got the itch to try doing it.  It plays and sounds okay now, but it doesn't have enough hair.  Lesson learned.

Bit like myself, wonder where it's all gone.....

Oh, you were talking about the bow rofl

Good work though.   Never tried doing that yet, someday I fancy trying it !

I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh - guntohead.JPG

Please make your own, different mistakes, and help us all learn :-)

Yep, FM could have a buy one, get one free deal on hair so we could all try it,,,and have that back up hank that we will need.  There are a lot of ways to screw it up that you don't know about until you make the mistake.  But its fun learning.  And I still have two FM carbon fiber bows just hanging on a hook waiting their turn at being played.  On the one that I changed, I had washed it twice recently and used 5 different rosins trying to get my normal sound (though with the way that I play, one would wonder why in the world I would want to sound like that).

I should have worked some more on the bow.  There were three hairs crossed, making all the hair bunched together.  Got rid of the three, then took it apart, combed it some more, looked good, put it back together and it plays nicely.  There are still some hairs that cross, I must not be putting the head in the hole correctly, or not handling the hair right at the tip.  But its a lot better now than it was last night.  I'm going to buy some more cheap (2 hanks for $3) hair and practice again and then I'll buy some good hair from FM and do it right.  It is fun to do.

It's definitely not easy. I did it a few times for the fun of it. LOL
Good luck to all of you who try it.

I imagine doing it, and being all proud of myself thinking I did it... going to play and having the hair all fall out, lol.

Although not as lush and full as it was when I was younger, by a long shot, I still look hairy enough from the front... but the hair on the back of my head is mighty thin to nonexistent in an all too big of an area.

That used to bother me a lot more than it does now. But then, looking in a mirror, I do not generally see the back of my head so it is easy to forget that bald spot back there.   ;)

As for changing bow hair, I may try that someday. Not right now though. I am good at crafts and such though, so it seems possible to me that I could do a bow hair change. I would not expect perfection the first time or two of changing bow hair though. Everything worth doing takes practice to get it right.
