while waiting for a new fingerboard for my mosaic project, I fixed this one up.
i was told it wouldn’t tune. It was put away for years.
im pretty sure the source of the problem was a loose neck.
i reset the neck, cut a new bridge, pegs, soundpost and Fiddlerman strings.
Can’t wait to hear it but I’m going to let it set a few days to insure the neck is set.
These violins are student violins that we’re made in the USA and are hit or miss.
This one cleaned up nice and looks respectable... wait and see

Nicely touched up back, IMHO.
Have a question about the purfling. Much of it looks clearly delineated but when I look at the bass side (lower bout) it looks like it's blurred and just a thick dark line. Is that just the lighting in the photo or the way it is? I'm asking because my mosaic backed violin now in the shop has that issue. Would that indicate painted on purfling (which may be the case for mine?)

It touched up nicely without disturbing the old finish much. I wish I knew how to date these.
The haziness is the glare off the crazing of the finish. This one is definitely real purfling

So, when Mack tuned this one up we had a buzzing going on with the G , thanks @Irv for helping me figure it out. Cut a new bridge a little higher on the G side and it cured it...
this really sounds nice with the Fiddlerman strings. This one is available to one of the high school students for 125-130 dollars. Really affordable and that is why we do what we do. I have fun working on them.

@steveduf and others. Glad I could help with the bridge.
Not that I would try it on this violin, but I have been having success with rubbing naphtha (lighter fluid) on areas with badly check finish and it seems to clean and smooth out the finish.
