... not my neck, the violin's neck.  My thumb keeps sliding off the neck.  I have two other violins and it is not a problem with them.  My Gliga in particular has a really nice feel to it.  My Cecilio CVN 700 has an odd finish on the neck that makes it slippery.

Any ideas on how to correct this?

hummmm... I haven't heard of that....I guess my comment is that at least you are not death gripping.... (I am still an occasional death gripper...facepalm)

I would think there would be something you could do to lessen the varnish shine/slippery-ness... but I am not sure what to recommend.

If it's the varnish on the neck, you might just want to use #0000 steel wool.
The varnish is there to seal the wood. Oil works to do that.
