The fracture of the button area from the main portion of the back plate is a difficult repair. This area takes the tension of the strings from the neck (multiplied by the moment arm of the neck joint depth) and transfers it to the back plate.
The strength of the wood in the area separating the button from the main portion of the back plate is weakened by a purfling groove. So why not eliminate the groove in this area? Some luthier of old did this. I salute him.
