After looking at the post of decorated violins the other day i have picked up a fifteen quid violin which I intend using for some art work on the body, however I need advice on removing all the varnish, so if anyone has any advice it would be appreciated thanks.

@stringy -

I found some great info, but since parts of the site are unsecure (like images), I can't link you directly.

Here's where to look.

Hmmm... I bet MEK would make your work easier.  I think MEK works much better than Acetone - used to use it quite a bit (mostly as a thinner and cleaner), but there are health risks, as with all solvents.  MUST use a proper respirator, solvent-proof gloves and ventilation system (if indoors).

I'd be careful if using "Citristrip" (very wet/doesn't evaporate), but did you check out Georganne's thread?

Or this thread?

Okay, I'm done here - have to figure out how I'm going to get all the Grandkid's gifts wrapped in time for Christmas (plus one has a Christmas Birthday)! (lol)
