Great Job Oliver. I had forgotten you said you were form Ct originally. I too hail from the Nutmeg State.
A place where the sky is yellow, the plants are smarter than the people. It's not the end of the world, but you can see it from there.

Connecticut is a Native American word meaning: Holy s*** it's cold!
Just kidding, I do miss New England, especially this time of year.

No, I am not a member of a community orchestra. That answer was only to say what level I might be as far as ability on the violin.
I said "2nd violin" because a friend in Ct. used to give me copies of their real second violin music to entice me to join but I did not like some of the politics that happened in the group(s). So I never joined but I played the music.
When you come to a fork in the road, take it.

I am 58 and started learning to play the violin about 6 months ago.I was born on Long Island and now live on a farm in Pennsyvania.
I decided to learn the violin because I always loved it but never had the time to learn. After having a heart attack and being told that I will soon need a transplant, it gave me time to learn. I still get around the farm and play with my horses but not like I used to.
Most days I'll spend a few hours playing around with violins, either repairng, building or trying to play.My proficiency on the violin is such that I enjoy it.
My greatest experience with the violin is that it keeps my mind ocupied and all the problems are gone.
Music is a release to me.
My goals for playing the violin are simple. To play it as long as I can and to enjoy doing it.
Other favorite thing for me are my animals. My horses, rabbits, goats, geese, ducks, and hundreds of chickens, and then of course my cats and dogs. Opps can't forget my wife and daughter.
I am a member of my own orchestra. I listen and I play.
As for violins. Right now I am playing a Karl Meisel which was totally destroyed with three cracks in the front and the finish was gone. I repaired the cracks and refinished it. I am also building a new violin for myself and plan on building an electric, so I can play it next time I'm in the hospital without anyone complaining. I had 3 other violins which I repaired and gave to the local school here and I have 3 more I'm working on to give to the school.
Well that's me in a nutshell

Welcome Kevin M. This forum is getting younger and younger(or luthier and luthier). You could have posted a video. We look forward to it in your next post.
