I'd like to request some changes be considered for the 'Party Room' Guidelines.  This is in the interest of keeping guidelines simple, encouraging members to participate, try new music, improve their playing skills and become more comfortable recording a video of themselves.

If you have not received a Party Badge, to get the badge, you need to think up a theme not used in about 4 months, otherwise, it does not matter if a theme is repeated.

Not repeating in 4 months is not for those who already have a Party Badge.

Maybe instead - just don't repeat an identical Party theme within 1 year.  Someone can start a "Reel" Party, but someone can also start a "Halloween Reel" Party, or Québécois Reel" - just for example.  Help encourage previous Parties to be looked over and continue during this time period.

As with all videos, do not use the same video in more than one party or more than once in the same party. Likewise, as with all videos, full face must show in the video for it to count towards any badges, also.

Maybe just - do not use the same video in more than one party.  If someone works hard to improve a previously posted tune, an additional video of this improvement should be encouraged.  Also, learning and recording a tune someone else posts should be encouraged.

I believe it's important to keep Party Guidelines extremely simple and straight forward for everyone visiting the "Party Room".

Why not just give a badge to the first video you post to a party whether starting one or participating.. All the other rules just keep from the main goal which is participating and sharing progress/playing I think.  Theres really no contest that we are tracking points for here...so see no need in alot of the party guidelines.  other than it maybe at least being a video of a person playing.   even allow blurred faces if people want.  think you may see some new hats thrown in.

As far as reusing a video youve already posted.  I dont think anyone that normally participates would do that anyway.

@ABitRusty -

Hey, if that would get more people to participate, I'm ALL FOR IT!

  • First time you start or join a Party with a video recording of yourself playing your instrument - you'll receive a Party Badge.

That would be simple and more in line with other Video Badges - I love it!

GREAT suggestion!

Anyone else have any suggestions to propose for when Fiddlerman gets back from vacation?

Just a note here, and this is all I am saying on this. For the BADGE (just stressing the badges part), the requirement is not repeating the same theme. If you have a badge, or are not interested in getting the badge, it does not matter if you repeat a theme. It would be nice if the themes changed but, if not expecting to get that badge, it does not matter.

If someone makes a new video with the same song, that is a new video. The same video means the same exact video being posted over and over.

As far as just giving a badge to anyone just joining in, that takes away from the idea of receiving badges. You have to earn them. The person starting a party is the one who receives a badge. The person starting the party thought up the theme and did the starting of the party. Giving it to participants takes out all the challenge.

It has always, since the beginning of the forum, been, you must be visible in any videos to receive a badge that requires a video. That is necessary. As was stated when I brought it up when doing the badge requirements, we must see the person's face if expecting a badge.

There are separate rules for badge requirements, if the member starting the party is trying to get a badge. If you have the badge, the requirements for receiving a badge do not apply.

Hope this helps.
