Considering that most right handed people are not as strong or coordinated with the left, and the same the other way around, I would suspect that if not ambidextrous, switching, after learning with your dominant side, it is not surprising at the difficulty.

If you think about, even handwriting is not as easy using the less do dominant side.

@Mouse -

But, which hand do you feel does the most work, needs the most dexterity, for playing violin?

I used to think it was my left hand, which seemed crazy being I'm right-handed.  Now I feel both hands have to be equally dexterous.

Im thinking it would be like starting over with violin.

It is coordination and muscle control too. It is not just dexterity.

Appreciate all the thoughts on this!

It's a pretty cool subject.

I always thought piano players seemed ambidextrous.

Been having a hard time trying to practice, while keeping my leg up off the bed, this past month (my leg got worse before getting better) - just can't get comfortable.

I changed out my strings tonight.  Had bought a set of Rondo 'Gold' on sale last year, finally got around to trying them.

First, it was kinda cool the set came with 2 different 'E' strings, tin plated & gold plated.  The gold plated has a little less tension, so trying it.

What I really wish - is they'd given me 2 different 'A' strings! 😖 ...really NOT liking this one.  Kind of surprized to like the regular Rondo 'A' better - can't believe there's that much difference.  I may need to try their steel-core 'A', but first I'll have to see what else I have laying around.

Still had a bit of a nightmare again with this particular set of geared pegs on my Maezarine. 😒  Hope to find the pegs are still holding tomorrow.

I found this to be true for me also.  the golds seemed a bit more tinny.   maybe its that theyre more focused.. idk.. bit went back to regular rondos which i like

@ABitRusty -

"the golds seemed a bit more tinny" - you hit the nail on the head!

I remember you saying you didn't care for them, but I already had them in my possession by then... too expensive to take them off, now.

On the plus side, I'd left my old strings on so long that anything would sound better... at least I hear some ringing again!  Unfortuately, any extra noise & mishaps (I'm avoiding the word "mistakes"🤭) are much clearer sounding & seem amplified, too!

...knock on wood, barely had to tune today - might've finally got my geared pegs well seated.  The pegs are supposed to be screwed into the pegbox the direction strings loosen, but the pegs were loosening as I tried to tighten the strings - my 3 pegs on the left still don't want to disengage properly.
