Fiddlerman 2022 Group Christmas Project - Wexford Carol

This years project will be Wexford Carol.
Please direct all your comments and suggestions for this project to this forum thread.

I'll create a page soon. I'll be posting parts for Violin, Viola and Cello.
If you are not a violinist, just be patient. I am thinking equally of all of you but we have far more violinists/fiddlers than we do any other instrument and I therefor start with the violin.

Hope you can join us!!!

First quick draft. See the score and import the mxl file if you like. It's not complete but you are welcome to play with it.

Stay tuned for the project page. Soon to come. In the meanwhile, feel free to play with the following files. They are subject to change.

Just an aside. Complaints about not hearing the melody (mine included) can easily be overcome with mixing. As an example, I brought the latest MXL version into MuseScore, changed all parts to viola (being the violacentric kinda guy that I am), and reduced the volume by 10% on parts 2-4 and by 5% on part 5. Here is the result:

And here it is with part 1 taken by violin:

Wexford Carol – Cello

If you're a cellist, please re-download this part if you downloaded it earlier.

I made some important changes.

Thanks!!!!!

@Fiddlerman Instructions said to video in landscape mode, if I recall. Will this work if you are doing cello? The instrument is not on the shoulder, you have to be farther away to get the full cello in landscape mode, if I am picturing this correctly. Am I picturing this in my mind correctly?

The new cello part should look quite different from the last one. If not, quit your browser and empty cache and try again.

Below is just a screenshot of the top corner in case your cache gets the old one.

Yes, please. I had to do it differently because people didn't follow directions. Maybe I don't need the whole body including the cello. I prefer that people do not leave me a ton of background. Better that the entire head, right and left side with complete instrument and arms are visible, but not a tiny person with a huge background.

Hello,  Is the Wexford Carol all instrumental or with vocals like last year?

Thanks, Kathy

Great, I really like your Christmas projects. I will participate, and motivate my husband (beginner cello) and my son (beginner violin) to participate too!

Also, an explanation for why the timing is not perfect on the click track.

I exported each audio file individually from the Finale file and for some reason after the audio export the files were not the same length. Go figure.

I aligned some waves afterwards to improve on it but it is not perfect.

When playing with the click tracks, please focus on the drums for the absolute best timing possible. Even that is weird, I know. LOL

Good luck, and thanks for your participation everyone.

@Fiddlerman I'm not hearing any real problem with the All-Parts click track--so is it best to just follow that one?

Yes, I agree. I think it's good for some people to use individual tracks so that they can focus on their part but for the more experienced players, tutti (all parts) might be the best.

My only point was that Finale messed up and the parts didn't line up after bouncing individually so I had to line them up manually. They should all time equally now since I bounced them all from the same LogicPro project.

I shared the Group Project page on Facebook to the Adult/Starters and learners group. Someone posted that they can’t find the link to upload the finished video. Thanks

That link hasn't been created yet.
It causes issues for me so I prefer to gather all the videos carefully and closer to the same time. Tell them it's coming soon.
Thanks for sharing the link.

@Fiddlerman

Click tracks discussions above = 🤯 😵‍💫 So, I can just use the cello click track and not have all that other in the way? If I just use the cello click track and I match that, it will work when included?

I am not following any of of this, sorry. I am not all that musically inclined, and have no idea about lining up tracks, so this is confusing.

Thanks for any clearing up.
