Please make all suggestions to the 2021 Group projects as a reply to this topic thread. Do not start another topic thread elsewhere. I have to move them here. Even if it is a video, it would go here, in the 2021 Group Project Suggestions if it is being posted as a 2021 suggestion.

If you find a suggestion for the 2021 Group Projects elsewhere, please do not reply. I will have to move your reply, also.

If you find one misplaced, please send me the link and I will move it asap.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Not a problem, Stringy. It has happened before. Figured I would remind others while I was at it. Thanks for the suggestion.

@Grandpafiddle and others -

(edited this post)

I suggested "Isabella's Lullaby" (Post 24) and I like the melody, so figured I better give it a go, just to see how bad it really is.

Y'all know my skill level is preety low, but I wanted to see if I could address some  concerns with many flats and sharps and key changes.

I've watched tutorials on shifting, but I'm ashamed to say I don't think I've spent a whole day on it.  When it comes to trying to learn some music, I definitely run into a lot of trouble if it doesn't have a discernible melody.

This weekend I watched a video (since removed) to see where the shifting was done (more than a few times). (lol)

I now use the score at musescore.com  (arrangement by Memoranda Music).  First, read it over, then also with the sound at 100% speed, then played along at 70%, then 100% speed.

I also played along with a video performance (since removed), at .75 speed, so I could watch while trying the shifting.  Did this numerous times. (lol)

🤗 Turns out, there's a couple of easy melodic patterns, motifs - they are repeated, just in different places on the fingerboard!

💥 With all the flats and key change, shifting is important for the score I used - I just had to get the 1st note right I was shifting to, then the intervals are easier across the strings and feels natural for fingering!

Quite a bit of 4th finger, though - which is GREAT (I always need it)!

I've seen videos where people do a lot more shifting than I felt was necessary, maybe I can share that soon.

💖 I was pleasantly surprised and I'm SO glad I tried it! 💖

It will take me a little longer to really get it memorized well and polished up a bit, so I'll work on it more, after the "Fiddle Hell" Festival.

...maybe give "Isabella's Lullaby" a try - even if it's not a GP!

Hi Emily. My initial response wasn't meant to offend. (I like to inject a little humor now and then.) I started with keyboard way back when I was around 12, 55 plus years ago and five flats wouldn't have phased me back then. I've only been fiddling for a couple years and not that many hours, so 5 flats throw me a curve on strings.

I really like Isabella's Lullaby, so I did some research and found a score with only one flat. Gonna give that one a try.

Happy Fiddling!

@Grandpafiddle -

I'm so glad you moved me to dive in!🤣

Btw, you are not the only one with concerns. (lol)

If possible, please post a link to the score you found!

Thank you so much!

Emily. It was a score on screen YouTube video by Pierfrancesco Battistella in the key of F. It provided a link to a PDF file in the comments section to download the score. When I went to download and print this afternoon, the link was expired. Sorry. My search continues. If I find anything, I'll let you know.

Sorry, Still not convinced. I am still leaning towards Ashokan Farewell, Ode to Joy or the In My Life just mentioned.

Isabella’s Lullaby is just beyond my capabilities. If Fiddlerman chooses that, I can bow out, and maybe catch the next project. but my preferences are not changed. I simply cannot learn a song like that in the time frame of a group project and be able to record it. That is a problem for me. Therefore, my preference is still the other three.

I hate to throw another song in the mix - we already have some good choices. In addition to my Ashokan Farewell suggestion, I would like to suggest Faded Love. I'm a beginner and it's one of the first tunes I easily picked up. This Mark O'Connor version is a duet, but I can hear (in my head) some slow bowing viola and cello parts to harmonize with it. Give it a listen and see what you all think.

Here are Mark O’Connor and Tessa Lark performing it.

ok ive watched this mark o conner version of faded love.  if it has anything political or any sign or such in the background promoting political or social parties can someone give me a time stamp becauae im not seeing it and think this a neutral share.  faded love is an excellent tune.  think it can be very basic all the way up to very difficult...so alot of range here.  if there is something political here please tell me so i know what to look for as to not violate some rules.

There is a survey that pops for a political group. This video has been removed.

Tennessee Waltz is good...although the lyrics are horrible...probably not a tune for the masses but fairly approachable even for beginners I feel.

I watched this—didn’t see anything political in GregW posted video.  Perhaps regional/randomized thing YouTube is doing with its advertising (i.e., not everyone sees the same ads that YouTube has pop up—based on tracking cookies, Google Ad Settings, region, etc., of the individual viewer).  But perhaps frozen screen image posted here had an ad visible on it?

Anyway, nice piece.

ok..so Ive watched the Mark O' Conner faded love duet video on a windows laptop version 10.and an android device....No popup from any lobbying organization for one of the U.S. constitution admendments.  sorry but your seeing ads that some of us are not.  i dont know if its due to your device or internet provider but wanted to bring it to your attention and let people know that some videos may be deleted for that reason.

The issue will be brought up and figured out, so we can get back on track with the 2021 Group Projects here.
