Not my taste Laugh I had to edit your post because for some strange reason only the short links are working off of YouTube. I will have to take care of that soon Embarassed

She is recording the work of a new composer which I think has a lot to do with the way that the music sounds but be sure to check her other videos on YouTube where she plays some more commonly known composers.  I happen to think that she may be the best thing that has happened to classical music (violin) in a long time.

Unfortunately, many people feel as you do but, again, we are hearing the recording of a new ( radical ? ) composer.  Anna can be very tame as seen in some other clips which include some "pedestrian" Mozart.

I would have to say she is one of the best living violinists. Probably much better than most of the past greats. She makes the violin part of her. It doesn't look like she's playing the violin, rather like shes singing through the instrument. That's undeniable talent....very awesome.

Well, I was referring to this particular performance, it really doesn't move me in any way. Maybe if I listened to it many times, who knows. She is actually a great violinist and I admire that she dares do her own thing. I remember when I first heard Kennedy play. I was shocked that he had come so far in his career but this is because he dared be unique.

WOW!! I almost get upset when listening to this. I just keep thinking to myself that  if I had that much talent, why would I play this way?  I think that you have a point about daring to be unique, Fiddlerman. Look at all the attention she got for this.

Well..It's a marketing, right? If no success as a "normal" violinist let's find something instead.. I think Karkowska (and her sister - manager) have found someone crazy enough to give them support. Anyway, it's going to be veeeery short term fame. Reason is simple - it sounds HORRIBLE and it has no background in musical science. Not even one excuse.Confused

still improving english –  welcome to correct me (on priv) :P

I wish this site took bets.  I would clean up with Karkowska.  60,000+ hits on You

Tube ( and counting ) is not bad for this crazy lady.

The mystery is about the CD.  Where/when is it ?  I e-mailed her studio and they said they do not independently release info about clients.  I bet that when and if there is a CD, it will be hard to find them in stock.

I have to declare her the best violinist of my lifetime.  (She'll ditch the tsunami vibrato when it no longer serves a purpose. )

Oliver, I for one wouldn't take your bet. Smile

The sisters are smart enough to find things that get peoples attention. This kind of success rarely happens by accident or by itself. They will probably come up with new gimmicks as well.

I have a strange hunch that all may not  be well with the K sisters.  Who's the star ?  Can two high strung and talented women really share the same stage on a regular basis ?

I just wonder one thing. If she would not add this horrid vibrato (because with this, I guess no academy would let her graduate), would she still be unique? Is there anything apart from this that displays a unique musicality and expression?

I have not heard her well...but I know that when people work hard to be different from others, they usually are pretty mainstream.

This is Anna K being a little more normal  I think she is brilliant even without vibrato.  Some other of her videos on YouTube are interesting where she plays regular Mozart.

A little more normal is right Oliver. Not that much though Laugh

I have heard some recordings of her playing very normal as well from their website.

I am scared of her  even when she plays "normally".

I wonder, can't one be unique without going THAT far nowadays? Because, she plays plainly horrible. I am sorry for my subjective opinion, but I doubt anybody listens to her because she plays wonderfully, rather only because she (with great technique) plays so differently. It is a bit like these guys who dress strangely on stage, or anything, just to get attention...

I think on the other hand, that she should go into metal/hard rock/whatever (new arrangements of classical pieces?), where she can sound like an electric guitar. That should suit her well.

I think we just have to wait for her CD to come out.  Then we can make a fairer judgement.  She will either be a great success or a total failure when she hits the market place.
