This is the first classical record I ever bought, in about 1974/1975. I don't think I had much of a preference between the Paganini and the Prokofiev. But I've always loved Prok's 2nd in preference to his 1st. My parents hated it - they thought it was a dirge.
Strangely, it was still available new on vinyl until a few years ago, but it has never been released on CD.
If you collect vinyl (I binned all mine 15 years ago), I'd be interested in what you think of it. (I remember complaining about the intonation in parts of the Paganini and violin friends telling me that was because it was difficult)
