Hello to all!

My name is Jason and I live just outside of Lafayette, Indiana.

I play mandolin and guitar and enjoy playing old fiddle tunes on them so decided to pick up a fiddle and begin learning to play them on that.

I've started looking for someone to teach me locally but haven't had any luck yet.

Thanks to everyone for sharing your knowledge and experience!

Welcome to the forum, @Hoosiercreeks! Did you notice we have a Mandolin forum room, too? We have you covered for your music room needs!

I think it is great you picked up a fiddle to learn those fiddle tines on. I would say that most of the members here play Fiddle music as opposed to the classical, etc.

Agin, welcome to the site and I look forward to reading your posts. Feel free to check out all the forum rooms.

Welcome to the Fiddlerman Forum!

So glad you decided to joined us, Jason!

Many of us are self taught here, so no reason you can't

start off with all the wonderful 'Beginner Tutorials' provided by Fiddlerman.

Maybe you can stir up the Old Time & Blue Grass Fiddlers here with some questions

(think they've been too quiet for a while 😆).

Can't wait to hear more about what music you like.

Welcome from a newcomer myself (been here a little over 2 months) and I gotta tell ya, this a great group of people! I am self taught and getting along. With your background you will probably do much better than I.

Thank you all for the welcome!

Mark, I work for FCA, now Stellantis, so I take a daily drive to Kokomo.

Way down to Kokomo. I just could not resist. I love that song, albeit and different Kokomo.

Hi!  I guess we're jumping in together.  I did a year at IU (but was not mature enough to handle the culture shock).  But I remember lying on the grass doing a problem set one day and looking up at the music building longingly wondering if I'd made a big mistake going for science, wishing I could be in there "just playing".  Then I saw almost my mirror image looking back, but with a clarinet in her hands and I could read her mind "The chemistry students are so lucky.  They don't have to practice - they just get to lay in the grass doing homework and then they're done."

I didn't stick around long enough to ever figure out what a Hoosier is - but if I could do it over I would have finished there.

Hoosiercreeks

Which plant are you at? I started at ITP when it opened in 1998 when you could see diagonally across the plant from entrance door to entrance door, there might of been 10 machines set when I started.

Been through 5 different company's. Hoping this is the last one before I become retarded oh I mean retired.

I'm at KTP now.

I have a good teacher in kokomo if you want her name and number let me know she's a pup but very down to earth and doesn't mind teaching old fossels like me, but  she is extremely good at playing the violin. She has been playing since she was 4 I believe it was when she started,  as a child her and her sister busked in Chicago, went to college for classical training, 10 years in a country band, she has perfect pitch, very annoying your playing along and she'll say that C# was just a little flat, and I look at her and say I don't think so, then I go back replay it and adjust it per her instructions and its so aggravating when she right!

I started at ITP1 in 2017 and transfered to ITP2/KEP about three weeks ago. I'm in maintenance and I'd like to have another 12 to 14 years with the company.

As far as getting the name of the teacher, yes sir! You can post the info here or, if you'd prefer, send it to me at (as a precaution, I have removed the email address and contacted @Hoosiercreeks to see if he would like me to PM his email address to Mark).

Thanks!

I realize you haven't been here long enough to be able to Private Message Mark, but I wouldn't leave your email visible too long.

I was looking for a bowing character, but these two will do. I just wish those pompoms were not that dreadful pink.

ELCBK & Mouse,

Thanks for your vigilance and concern. As I'm sure you can tell, I don't normally post on forums.

Mark,

Thanks again for the info.

I'm looking forward to learning from all of you.
