Helllo everyone, I'm posting from NW Montana.  I work as a wildland firefighter in the summers and in the winters I plow snow and do contract tree removals.  I've wanted to play the violin for many years now, and finally took the plunge and ordered one online (There arent any instrument shops around me for at least a hundred miles).  Granted it is a cheap chinese made one but I saw some good reviews on youtube and see it as a good stepping stone.

Regardless I am very excited to receive my instrument and get started.  I played the trumpet back in high school and had always wished my school had an orchestra.  But the fiddle's on its way and should be here tomorrow.  Needless to say I can't wait to break it out.  I've been pouring over the information on this site, forum, and youtube making sure I'm ready to hit the ground running.

I'm excited to get involved here and post some videos so you guys can tell me what I'm doing wrong ;)

I have resisted the desire to post a video to show my progress, as my playing still sounds to my neighbors, like I am killing cats in the music room.  I may have to sound proof that back room!  My wife would appreciate it I am sure.

Hi, Shralper!! Welcome to the forum! birthday_balloon It's nice that you've found this site right at the beginning of your learning. If you'll follow FiddlerMan's videos and tips, you'll be progressing without getting bad habits! Just don't forget to post your videos =)party cheerleader coffee

Hey Shralper.

Welcome. I am new to the violin too. Checked the tracking and I should have it by Monday so I took the day off :-)

Looking forward to seeing your progress at the same time I am learning.

Once again welcome and good luck santa3

My wife tells me that I'm doing very good. She lies a lot but I keep trying and No mater what it sounds like, I enjoy it.  It makes me forget about all the negative things in life so just play to your hearts content no mater what anyone says.

Thanks for the welcome!

I can't express how much I am enjoying the violin!  I'm literally having a hard time putting it down and walking away.  I'm planning on posting a video this weekend so I can see what you guys have to say ;)

Please don't resist BC. We will only judge your progress not your playing. And I have yet to see a video by anyone where there is not anything nice to comment about. One can look for what is good in a video and what needs improvement. I promise that you have something good to offer in your first video post.smile
