Hello all! :) I'm Michelle and I'm brand-new to both this site and the fiddle. I've been playing music in some form my entire life - piano, flute, voice - and have been messing around with guitar in a very casual way for a while.

My uncle organizes an acoustic music camp in Florida every year and I had the pleasure of attending a few years back - totally fell in LOVE with the fiddling! I'd played violin as a kid for a year or so (maybe 3rd or 4th grade?) but never got into it. Old time country, folk, celtic - THAT is good stuff and I'm so excited to learn to play now at almost 41. :)  I just started lessons locally this past Thursday - I'm generally a self-taught kinda gal, but figured a few months of in-person lessons would be a nice kick-start. The resources on this site are an amazing complement to my in-person learning.

Other than music, I'm a homemaker who spends most of her time homeschooling and generally corralling my two sons, keeping the household running, and writing fiction in whatever spare time I can find. I also am learning to hula hoop, which is tremendous fun!

I look forward to learning with everyone here. :)

Welcome Michelle.

What's a hula hoop? Is that some kind of instrument?

Welcome Mitchelle!

Glad to have another member on here.  The more the merrier!  Wow, stay at home mom and home schoolin'?  Toughest job ever.  But prob the most rewarding!  My wife and I are full time students with 5 kids between us and a small zoo!  Like so many of us, I took up the violin and have gotten hooked on this site.  Great place to learn the violin and engage in some of the best conversation with some of the best people in the world.

If ya ever need ANYTHING...let us know.  It is a pretty tight knit group around here.  Look forward to hearing about your progress, vids of your progress and getting to know ya better.  Have fun and remember we are all here to help each other.

Haha, nope Pierre, I'm in Southern California... about as far from Florida as you can get in the US! :)

The camp is the Sunshine State Acoustic Music Camp in St. Petersburg, happening this year from November 16-18, their 23rd year. :) Website for any who are interested: http://camp.cgmusicman.com/  It's a lot of fun, very laid back, amazing people. I'm slightly biased I suppose. wink

gkeese: Thanks for the warm welcome! Yep, my job is never-ending and exhausting, but the most fun ever at the same time. :)

Kevin: Hahaha! Hooping doesn't make much sound, but it's a lot of fun to hoop TO music!

welcome Michelle, we met briefly in the shoutbox... glad you decided to continue on with your education of the strings.

You see... you were infected at an early age and never recovered. It appears you only thought it was in remission... but you were wrong.

Like all of us here on FM.com we too suffer from time warps, lack of sleep, lack of family involvement, and general selfishness towards things like strings, rosin and small rags used to wipe off the instrument... You get the picture.

Enjoy your stay here, hope it's a long one.thumbs-up

Welcome to the forums, Michelle.

I should warn you, though, the regulars here are one of the wildest bunches of crazies I have seen in a long time.  That's why I like it here.  LOL

I'm in Lake Forest - I see you're in Laguna Beach, we're practically next-door neighbors! :)

And thank you everyone for the VERY warm welcome - what a nice bunch of folks! I'm perfectly at home with crazy, rowdy people... that pretty much describes my house most days. amuse
