Hello everyone! I have been a musician for a long time but I am new to violin and just started 2 weeks ago.
Well, I did have a stint where I started 22 years ago, but then left off after dislocating two fingers in my right hand and a long period of physical rehab. I never did get to violin after that as I was busy gigging out playing guitar, bass and drums semi professionally and then ended up with a career change where I was on the road too much to play anything.
Goals? Ohh, that's a tough one.
For me, I just cannot "not learn and play"
It's really a tough one though. I love multiple genres of music, and love multiple instruments. I play guitar, bass, drums (and other percussion), keyboards/piano, sing, trumpet, french horn, harmonica, recorder, penny whistle and pan flute. And there are more I have dabbled with. I am adequate with a lot, but will likely never be a virtuoso with any.
And then there is genre of music... for the most part, I love almost all music, but my 3 favorites are classical, new wave, and hard rock.
But, I think I am coming closer to finding what my musical (and specifically violin) goal would be: I want to be able to play well enough to express the music I hear in my head.
And that music is likely going to be a combination of those 3 styles somehow.
