Thomas was just given Bach's Minuet 2 from the Suzuki book and something I just cannot figure out. There are a couple of slurred thirds in this piece and I have always played them faster than the other, non slurred eighth notes when I was younger, but noticed now that I am looking at the music that these thirds are not written as 16th or any faster than the other 8th notes. Yet, every single youtube performance I see of people playing this piece do the same thing I did, and played these thirds faster than the other 8th notes. What is the correct method. I appreciate it and thank you ahead of time.

When you say thirds do you mean triplets?

If so, they should be faster than the normal 1/8 notes because you have to fit 3 of them in the space of 2 normal 1/8 notes.

Not sure if this is helpful, but this Cadenza Strings fellow does a lot of the Suzuki stuff at different speeds on his Youtube channel.

Here’s Minuet #2 at a slower tempo:

And faster:

And slow, with a metronome:

Characterize people by their actions and you will never be fooled by their words.
