It’s fine though because they definitely feel easier to press down. Also I’m still a beginner and oblivious! I got my new violin in August so I thought it was time for new ones.
I’ve attached a photo ! Also I have a luthier coming to my house ! My actual house ! With some chin rests to try. Think I need a higher one.
Also I have a question. My thumb was under the neck but it was feeling really tense it feels much less tense if it’s up the neck more but sometimes it slips it’s so annoying and knocks my confidence. My thumb is I think the biggest issue I have at the moment ( there’s always something I’m stressing about) I’m trying to rest it on the bone part of the thumb. The slipping isn’t terrible it’s just annoying and I feel like my thumb is in a different place every time I play.
Anyone got any thoughts?

Being set up better with a new shoulder rest/chin rest may solve ALL issues you are having with your thumb. I'm thinking you probably won't feel like you have to support your violin so much with your hand/thumb when it's more secure on your shoulder.
Really outstanding to have the luthier come to you, just hope he brings tools for tweaking/adjusting - never know. (lol)
Might want to explain to the luthier you play Classical AND Fiddle music - let him help make sure you can play comfortably for both types of music.
I personally think the violin should be kept as low as possible to the body - less stress on your bowing wrist/arm/elbow/shoulder.
Best of luck!

Same strings as I use, were did you get them from? Emily is quite correct, you shouldnt be gripping at all with your thumb, the fiddle should rest more or less in the v of your left hand, but ideally be supported by your collar bone, if you dont grip with your thumb it wont slip. Like Emily said your luthier will point all that out to you anyway.

Emily have you seen thw impressionist chin rest pad, I saw it on violinist.com, cant order them here otherwise I would get one, only 13 doĺlars, you warm the pad in water, them put it on your chinrest and put yoir chin on it and it molds to shape and stays moulded, you can then attach it to yoir chinrest, and if you dont like the shape it can be reheated and the process repeated till you get it right, I think its a great idea. If I could get one over here I would try it out.
