My Brother was using the excuse that he was having too much trouble with tempo and rhythm, as one reason to not pick up his various string instruments.

So, for Christmas I bought him a "Pulse" by Soundbrenner.

The concept is that you rely on your hearing for many important things in music, but if you are having trouble with tempo & rhythm, feeling it can have more impact.

You can wear it just about anywhere on your body, make some basic adjustments right on the device - but the app affords great customization, allows you to match midi click tracks, even sync up with other players.

My Brother has been playing his ukulele! 🤗

Bought one 'for Kevin', too - thinking he might fix the few of the 20 buttons not working on a squeezebox he found & give it a try.

...it's all charged up, but guess I'll have to try it - just to set an example. 🙄😁🤫

Now, besides "Pulse" tutorials, the Soundbrenner Channel on YouTube also has great videos on basic Rhythm!

...like this one on "Grooves of Jazz".

@ABitRusty -

Didn't want to dig into the app & learn about using it with DAWS until after I finished what I needed to get out of the end of my subscription to FIDDLEVIDEO (almost there) & still spending time at Fiddle Hell on replays.

BUT...

I'm MUCH more interested, now - it was a little crazy around Xmas and didn't see much info at Soundbrenner.com when I purchased it, but since I just found the 'Getting Started' video (for dummies like me) and peeked at some of the features I didn't know about, I'll be looking closer!

I like this!

I might need to look closer at this (when I'm not tired and after I've completely checked the app), about Soundbrenner DAW tools - don't know if this is outdated info (from 5 years ago). (lol)

Don't think I'm in the market to subscribe to Soundbrenner "Plus" (I still haven't subscribed to anything related to music, except FIDDLEVIDEO), but there is a free trial available to check it out.

Anyway, I'll be talking more about it with my Brother this weekend.

I have the Peterson BodyBeat Pulse Solo. I bought it a few years ago. I stopped using it because I found the pulse to be quite annoying. I think it takes getting used to and really depends on how sensitive you are to feeling those pulse taps. Too soft and they tickled me, make it more pronounced and I found it annoying and detracted me from my playing.

@Mouse -

Thank you!

Will keep what you said in mind.

Didn't find any comparison reviews or videos of Soundbrenner "Pulse" vs. Peterson Body Beat Pulse Solo, but I do like that Soundbrenner's "Pulse" is Bluetooth - the Peterson is not.

I don't mind this pulse on my skin...

It feels good on my ankle, so far - maybe some association to tapping my foot (?)  Just don't want it anywhere on my arms or wrists because it draws my unwanted attention.

Sampled YouTube to see what people didn't like about the "Pulse".  Seems most concerns have been resolved and the good thing is the company listens to complaints and is constantly making improvements.

This particular video does have me questioning the need to know about the "Daw Tools" video in my previous post.

At 3:16 minutes into this video, I think he's saying "Daw Tools" was uses for Mac, but now Mac and Android only need the phone app (?)

🤔... seems the app has a lot of 'self-help' tutorials (whew).  I have the "Pulse" re-charging, so later today I can install the app & really start learning to use it. 😊

I had the one I had clipped to my waist band, and for some reason I am thinking I tried inside my sock. I would only be able to use the left sock if I did it on the leg area now because I lost some feeling on the right leg. It is not as bad midway between the knee and ankle, but lower than that, I think it would be an issue. Just a tip for anyone else with any issues with feeling using a pulse metronome, make sure where you are going to wear it, you do not have nerve issues, and you are not ticklish. I am very ticklish.

Using a pulse is a good option for a lot of people, and I wish it had worked for me.
