I'm so excited! I'm finally starting to play the violin! I wanted to when I was in middle school but the only violin the school had was in bad shape & I didn't want my parents spending money on an expensive violin at the time but now I'm finally able to practice!

I just recently bought a used violin, a 4/4 black violin (w/ bow & case, they didn't give me rosin though), and now I'm starting to learn now that the loose pegs are fixed. I play left-handed, as its more comfortable for me.

I found this site & thought that it would be best to use it for now, as I can't afford lessons at the local music school. I've never touched a violin before this, but I'm hoping to catch on quick as soon, I'll have enough free time between my online classes & waiting for my baby to arrive that I'll be able to practice for hours at a time.

I am hoping to play like Taylor Davis, as she is my favorite artist that plays the violin. Also a big fan of DEVM (Dues Ex Vapora Machina), a steampunk band I met at the Wild Wild West Steampunk Convention this past spring, but since they aren't as well known its harder to listen to their music.

If someone could give me tips on playing left-handed, I would be forever grateful as almost every lesson I can find (not just here, but everywhere) is either for right-handed playing or I have to play to watch the video/look at the books/pdfs.

Welcome to the forum Hex. I'm glad you decided to take up the violin and will be able to find time during your pregnancy. Possibly a great experience that you can pass along to your child in the future.
Playing left handed is the same as playing right handed, inverse of course, but I understand the frustration of watching the videos and trying to figure them out in reverse to properly imitate them.
I haven't given this much thought but if you download a video and invert it with a video editor, might that work? Maybe a big hassle for what it's worth though. Not sure.
In any case, hope you enjoy your journey and find helpful videos which will guide you.
