I probably should just share a link to his channel...would be easier

The first part talks about the title then to more rhythm/groove stuff and a short discussion on the real book.  he has a whole video on just that..

Smiley Broke Apart Smiley

This is such an entertaining way to learn!

Starting at 4:20 - Subjective Rhythmization, very cool!

I will check out "The Real Book"!

Thanx, @ABitRusty !

In the "Chug-ga, chug-ga" pair, the 1st Chug has the strong down beat and the 2nd chug is a weaker beat - the pair is repeated once.  So, ONE and two and ONE and two and.

But, I always heard BOTH Choo's equally expressed/equally long!  That's not a trochee or an iamb, so what is?

Breathe in, breathe out - yeah, I forget.

...thought everyone made the same train sounds! 🤣

funny little exercise...  think this may be for bodhran players.  i tried tapping every other beat with foot and clapping out notes with hands.  should film and post in laugh a day.

Thanx, Greg - for making this my new favorite emoji. (lol)

My head's still reeling from all the different rhythms I tried to learn at Fiddle Hell!

I can get into this crazy reel - only as long as I just listen.  Once I look at what they wrote, I'm all messed up!  I'll have to come back to this when my head is clear. (lol)

its just an exercise for note lengths in context.   nothing specific to silver speer.  they just use the tune for the exercise.

Love the "Unsquare Dance!

Bet it would've be hard to dance to this if there was no music.

🤔 Maybe watching videos like this is why people think it's okay to clap on the 1 and 3 during jazz?

LOVE this, but need help describing this rhythm!

No doubt I feel it and could play it - syncopated, but would really like a better way to describe it.

"Freemount Bypass", modulated Reel by Jim Murray and Dezi Donnelly - played along with Mike McGoldrick and Sharon Shannon.

Transcribed in E/Em at thesession.org (originally F/Fm?)

https://i.pinimg.com/originals/d7/d4/29/d7d429894225f32b0d693827225a0cdc.gif

Even my freaky emoji here seems to move right in step! 😳

Geez, what is this rhythm?

...feeling stupid.

one word...GREAT...how id describe it...

talking beat...or groove here...sounds like a cross between when the levee breaks and a trap beat but i dont know what the official name for that would be... not a shuffle...or a trainbeat.. yeah..pretty much all i remember from my ez drummer software.  coffee1

but its gah-roove-ee.

good find @elcbk.  let me know what we gonna name it.

Laugh Out Loud Smiley

What I think "I" hear in "Freemount Bypass", doesn't seem quite right.

Think you're on to something, GregW, with "When The Levee Breaks" - but everywhere I look, that's just called "a heavy groove"(?)

...had a hard time trying to find a place this fit in the EDM sub-genres video, and nothing in the drum rhythm video matched.  🙁

hmmm.  for 4 measures....

seems like the shaker is going...1&2&3&4&

the snare is normal...2 & 4 but on the 4th measure has an extra hit on the 3..foowed by a (high hat) on the &..

something like that  so far.

just the opening...and i said 4 bars it actually sounds like 8 bars

and in addituon to a shaker i think there is a closed high hat maybe on one of the &'s with the shaker..

pretty sure im hearing a kick on 1 and 3...pretty sure im hearing a snare on 2's and 4's but theres some flam's or something elae in there...on the 8th measure it seems like an extra snare on the 3 or the 3&

playing with the timeline in ezdrummer..ill post an .mp3 loop if im able to put something together...

You might look in musescore and see if there is a percussion sheet.  you may be able to do the same there.

EDIT****

ran into a drummer ( garage drummer friend )...he thinks there is not a shaker but the 1&2&3&4&  is just a closed high hat but they open it a little every other hit or so...  Not sure i agree...will see.

TRANSMISSION OVER****

@ABitRusty -

Darn, nope, not hearing that.  Not so even.

Slowed "Freemount Bypass" down to .5 - this is what I hear before melody starts.

S = shake,  = strong, sustained beat,  • >

[{ & S , S ••• & • }, {S ••• & S , S }, {S ••• & S , S }, {S ••• & S , S •  }]  then goes back to the beginning when the melody starts [{ & S , S ••• & • } etc...

Btw, the brackets are only for helping see pattern - no pause between bracketed groups, just 1 long pattern.

So maybe actually, a much longer pattern repeat than previously thought (?)

@SharonC - didn't you play drums?

@ABitRusty -

Now you've gone 'n done IT!

Had to listen to "Freemount Bypass" so much...

just HAD to start playing it!

Been up ALL nite and only kinda got this tune down half way!

And only at half speed!

Stumbling a little, so not going to sleep

until I've got this first half, for sure.

Are you up for a challenge?

giphy.gif

...wanted to learn it anyway. 😁

lol...still havent started rragged hank of yarn or revistited knotted chord..yet.  much less all the Andre Brunet stuff. Im with you on thay Freemount bypass is great though..  i purchased the whole album and had freemount on repeat yesterday.  I think Im like you initially and would probably like to look at changing keys so if you get it transcribed send it over.  The session.org version may sit well under the fingers but i havent tried it yet....AND JUST where are you finding this stuff at!!?  Most that you share I like but the last 3 or so have been too catchy for a once listen.

Yeah..probably as close as I can get for a bit..  I tried slowing it down like that but kept chasing my ears on what i was hearing and loaing my place so just sped it back up and came up with that.
