@ABitRusty, you managed to film Bigfoot I remember! Mrs. Bigfoot might have him busy. He is kinda tough to get on film.
If you enjoy it then I say go for it! It's a whole lot safer than donning a flying suit and jumping from a cliff.
The place I'm talking about is a protected eagle sanctuary. There's a bunch of them there.. They are protective of their nests and I could see one diving at a drone. Didn't know you could get drone insurance. Cool.

@starise FALSE (Dwight Shroot voice) I was unable to locate the bigfoot.
yes when you register for the warranty you can throw them another 50.00 or something close for the ins. covers accidental damage 1 time. not sure for how long.
those flying suit guys are nuts. I get vertigo looking at the drone remotes screen. maybe its time to start a drones and coffee podcast.

@ABitRusty and others. Checked out the inspire. $3.5k new and $1.5k rebuilt. I do not think that I need that much heft. The dji mavic has a 0.5 lb battery.
If I can run a cam off one of the propeller motors, I could drive a scroll saw that would only weigh a few ounces.
Do any drones come with video stabilization, or is there an app that has that feature? I might be able to remove vibration at a known frequency if the saw had a separate motor by adjusting video frame rate, but the motor speed driving a propeller would be all over the place.

as far as I know all the dji drones have a mechanically stabilized gimble.

That ocean photo gives me the willies just looking at it, but at the same time, a desire to be there. I am such and “oxymoron”!
Maybe seeing shore at all times would make you less nervous. Also, we have a dinghy attached to our cat at all times in case of emergency.

@fiddlerman I haven't got the nerve yet to try and launch/recover from the boat. maybe this summer. I still have the dji you crashed your drone insurance so I should be good for one attempt. the takeoffs arent a problem but the landing might be interesting. did you catch it by hand or set down on the deck?
I landed it on deck. I was a bit nervous and hardly had any experience but I took it real slow on the landing. LOL. The wind didn't help.
ahhh..the "return to home" function possibly would NOT be something you would want enabled on a floating vessel surrounded by water! I would assume manual landings are a necessity.

@ABitRusty and others. Do you want me to pm you a listing for one?
Once in flight, do the spinning propellers act as a form of gyro so that a palm tree frond would not fling it out of the air (assuming the propellers were protected by something like a guard or netting)?

@ABitRusty and others. I took a frame grab of the mother board of a dji mavic drone, showing the wire leads going to the propeller motors. I still want to double those leads to drive a total of eight motors. Once on a tether, voltage will remain constant so the motors will never overheat from a low voltage condition inherent with a battery.

@Irv my mavic air shipped with what looks like a plastic cage similar to what a carnival bumper car would have around it. I haven't come into contact with trees so I can't speak for what would happen if I ran into something. ive seen videos where the dji drones recover from running into tree leaves. it also ships with a set of spare props just in case.
I'm thinking if you parallel another motor its going to double any current draw assuming the motor your instaliving is the same. also rotation and prop orientation is important. just putting that out as a thought if you think it's something to consider. I believe there is a battery temp circuit that allows the operator to see temp in the software. possible uses for that.

@ABitRusty and others. I understand about prop motor rotation. You need to have both clockwise and counter clockwise rotation in equal amounts to cancel out torque. I am not sure what you mean regarding prop orientation. Are you referring to direction of prop pitch?
Another question. Can you focus video camera to a macro mode (about a foot away from an object)? It would be neat if you could filter joystick response when close to an object for more stable manoeuvrings.

@Irv I'm not where I can check but I'm pretty certain you can't put a prop on just any motor. they're designed for a specific place. so that makes me wonder about what prop to use on your additional motors. From what I recall a coworker telling me..he got the placement wrong and his drone couldn't fly stabil. I understand it would be trial an error and it was just something I was throwing out there for you to keep in mind. if vibration is too high..maybe try another prop. as far as camera focus...I don't know if you could call it macro but when you land there is some detail. I think you'll be fine seeing what youre working on.

@ABitRusty and others. A Canadian guy on youtube did a review on the bosch micro chain saw and uses it to demolish card board boxes. I am trying to get an email address for him. He does have some items for sale, so that should not be too difficult.
No luck purchasing a cheap drone yet.
I just got some cricut craft cnc cutters that I am playing with for another idea.
