This is a party for those who have found a piece of music they may have been on the look out for!! Or maybe it’s a piece they have always wanted to play and have just come across it.
I’ve always liked this one and I found an arrangement I really like in an old exam book I found in a music shop.
I am out of tune in places but I thought I’d share and would love to hear others favourite tunes!

@Katie L -
You are killing me! 🤣
I know that tune so well by heart I could pick it up - even without the sheet music, but took me a little bit to remember the name!
"Starry, Starry Night" (aka. "Vincent") by Don Mclean. I was in High School when this hit the charts!
Love your playing & Love your Party idea!
I don't know how I can participate though - I just learn a tune by ear if I can't find the sheet music.
...I don't have anything like that. 🙁
🤔... maybe I'll just pick one of the 70's tunes I used to love to listen to.

@Katie L What an inspired idea for a party! Thanks for throwing down the gauntlet--I need to think what to play for this.
I recognized the tune, but I didn't know the name of it.
You're sounding pretty good on the new fiddle, by the way--great job!

ok Katie heres mine. This is a tune Martin Hayes put out as a how to play video recently and when it came across my channel I knew I wanted to learn. When I got a chance last night I looked through a book I had and found a version and played it. I havent memorized yet but one of the great things about these parties is it gives goals.. I see getting this down fairly quick as far as the notes and then spending alot of time playing.
excuse my mess...the room and playing
as a side note...old phone didnt survive falling out of shirt pocket and coming in contact with mower blades.. for some reason i cant find setting to correct the odd mirror image thing. im right handed..lol..idk..maybe im just noticing something thats always happened in recording. funny

@ABitRusty -
WOW!
Really nice Jig - quite mesmerizing!
I would've definitely lost my place in there -
think that rhythm is a little tricky & you nailed it.
...and great, you made Katie's Party Official!
Glad you joined the Party!

Mine's a surprise - trying to get some vibrato going with it, before I record!

ABitRusty- that was great, I agree with Emily I would have got totally lost playing that. Really liked the tune - can’t really explain what I liked but maybe something about the way you made the notes blend together and the bowing ! Thanks for recording.
I know what you mean about recording I usually have to start again because a cat will come through the window or something and stick it’s head right in he way !
I have another idea for a party but it’s going to take a lot of work for me to be able to start it ha ha!!

Here's mine:
This is a version of Ashokan Farewell – I do have a copy of Jay Ungar’s sheet music—full of ornamentations, etc., However, the version I’m playing is a more simplified arrangement, arranged by Bob Cerulli.
So, I think this meets the party category. I first heard this almost 30 years ago (!) when I watched the PBS documentary The Civil War.
At the time, I had no thoughts about trying to play the violin. I mean none--not in my realm of thought. But when I heard this song while I watched the documentary, I remember thinking, “If I played violin, I’d like to play this tune.” If you had told me then that I would, 1) take up the violin later in life, and 2) play this tune – I would have told you that you were crazy.
For those who don’t know, Ashokan is an outdoor educational/retreat in the Catskill Mountains area of NY. When I was a child (I grew up in NJ & NY), 5th & 6th grade students in area schools went to Ashokan for a week long class trip. Beautiful area.
