Thanks, I think its ok in G, makes it easier to play, shows what a genius beethoven was, I think its a great tune, made for violin this one.

Thanks katie, I have been managing to get a fair bit of practice in lately, didnt practice reaally at all for about 9 months from last year into this, so my progress halted, I am back to basics now, and getting it together a bit more;)

Would like to see others post a video of them playing this piece.

I think thats great, I have said it thousands of times, violin is extremely hard, as you now know, but I think you are making excellent progress with it.
If you would accept a touch of friendly advice, I would suggest using a tuner to check your notes as you play, not because they are out but because it fixes the sound in your head while you are using the tapes and then when you take them off you can hear when its the right note. you havent been playing long and your improving very quickly for arguably the hardest instrument in the world.
bob on, I like it, great stuff.
PS, may ask mouse to move this to a party thread.

This wasn't my best of days when dealing with my tremors. I had the most horrible shakes today it's a wonder I was able to play at all.
I'm waiting until after the first of the month to get a new tuner, too much spendy stuff on the CC this month to add more to it.
Would love to have Mouse move this to a party thread. Might get more people interested in playing this piece and posting it. Might even get a few ghosts to join up because Ode To Joy isn't that difficult to learn and it's impressive to play for non violinists if you repeat it a few times.

I thought yOu souded great even with shakes.
Dont know if you have ever tried Slan La Maigh, (farewell to the Maigh)river in Ireland, very old slow Irish tune, its quite beautiful and very well known. Its also a simple tune like Ode to joy, but is also very impressive, as you say for non violinists, well worth checking out, and is a good one for all kinds of techniques, You can double stop it, vibrate it, slur it and a million other things, and you can also put your own stamp on it which I like. I think tunes should evolve with each players own style, while at the same time keeping the core of the tune, it also goes well with another old one called sheebeg sheemore(English name), in a set.
By the way you have a nice tone developing there.

Thanks John I think if I keep practicing my variation on ode to joy it will be better than the original, lol, I may even get good at it going To be honest I was a bit disapointed when I played this back, as I hit another string in the first part, which by now I shouldnt be doing,, and then in third position I hit three flat notes, but I didnt have time to re do it so I posted it anyway. Going To ask mouse will she move this whole thread to a party really hope you will re post yours in there as well. May even get some others to join in.
Emil thanks for watching much appreciated.

Some nice playing here @stringy and @RDP ! like the shares on this!
@RDP I really like the way youre doing your videos! great setting and intrs youre doing along with progress! coming along great.
Thanks. The garden is overgrown and actually looks pretty awful this year. The shot up the steps behind me is about the best backdrop out there. Lots of wind noise and unusual traffic sounds too for some reason. Oh well.
I don't like videos that begin without an intro. It's like someone edited the video and deleted the opening credits. On the other hand, I detest videos where the screen personality takes 20 minutes of giggling and guffawing to explain how he spells his own name and still manages to get it wrong. Hopefully I managed to get it right and not be one of those giggling guffawing buffoons.

@stringy and @RDP - Two good variations on this tune. Stringy, as always, you put such feeling into your playing! RDP, I don't know how you are able to play as well as you do with those tremors. I'd probably give up and am glad that you don't!
Doc appointment Monday for the shaking. Probably going to need another MRI to assess what's going on. (bleh!) I'm hoping it's something that can be managed easily because it'd be nice to play without the built-in vibrato and other problems. During this shoot I actually shook so bad that I knocked my shoulder rest off the violin 4 times. Talk about frustrating, no one else in my entire family has this problem except me. Of course no one else in the family still has all his hair, or curly hair, or wants to play a musical instrument. All of which leads me to think I need to have a quiet private talk with my mom about a mailman...
I'm also seriously considering reshaping my bridge curve to drop the G string enough to keep me from doing an accidental double stop on it all the time. I have a tiny bit of extra string height over the fingerboard on that end for a slight change and plenty of airspace to lift my elbow high enough to play on G when I want to. If there was a luthier any closer than 1 1/2 hours away I'd ask him what he thought. Alas, no, so it's up to me to experiment.
