ahhh ok @stringy.. i wouldnt have known how political it was till you brought up. good to know.
what little exposure i have to irish music id lump into 2 categories...pub songs and session tunes. MY categories not how everyone else does it but pretty sure there are differences. Danny Boy never has come up at a session. it seems to be a performance thing for the most part here. same kinda thing goes in an old time jam..youd probably never hear orange blossom special called at an old time jam. whivh seems to be THE southern fiddle tune if outside the style looking in.

@JohnG -
GREAT "Oh, Shenandoah"!
Sounded really good!
Even if you don't think it helped, you actually did a lot of beneficial prep work by trying to play this by ear prior to today - congratulations!
You're kickin' this Party up a notch!
This Party has done something to me!
...starting to view most of the music I play (that I haven't shared here) as
"Parlor Music" of the COVID ERA! 😳

I commented on your daisy bell john, dont know if you saw it? but I will be brutally frank I thought your shenandoah was better, a lot better, I thought your intonation was really good and also your timing, it reaļy was nice to listen to, exactly the correct speed. I have always liked that tune.
I think you did that one to show what you can really do because you were not happy with your first post, which incidentally I also thought was good. In any case, you did show what you càn do with your shenandoah. Amazing for a year, you really should be proud of yourself, I am pleased for you, you may not believe that but I really am, its hard work.
I think you would have been suited to violin, but, then again, Mozart himself preferred viola, no accounting for taste eh..??

This is my Danny Boy! I’m hoping it will work ok as I’ve I’ve had a few technical problems!
If you make to to the end thank you for watching ! It’s obviously really early vibrato stages but I just thought I’d go for it as I really wanted to join in. I’ve only just come down to first position and I haven’t had the guts to put in my pieces yet ! Also I couldn’t find my glasses but that’s a lame excuse as the music is really big!
Also it’s obviously out of tune in places but adding vibrato has made everything else go out the window. I think I’ll keep practing and then eventually re do and post in critique corner !

That was really good Katie, love the shawl is that the Scottish look;).
I made it to the end, amd enjoyed it all, we all know how difficult it is.
I know how hard vibrato is, its an advanced techniquie, some people never master it, ever, You definately are getting it, You are doing wrist correctly there is only hand movement which there should be, I found that very difficult so changed to arm, but its personal preference a lot use arm in first position and hand higher up the neck, whatever you are getting it right and its coming on a lot welĺ done.
Just think, not long ago you had tapes all over it.;)

My teacher calls that "kerflooey" (i.e., concentration on one hand & messing up with the other). Normal part of the learning process. Thanks for joining in!
Characterize people by their actions and you will never be fooled by their words.
