@ABitRusty -

Have to be careful with "Angelina Baker".

Wikipedia points out that the Stephen Foster tune version (you want for this Party), differs from the popular Old Time Fiddle tune!

There is definitely overlap in the genres.

I’ve attached a list I’ve made that is by no means all-inclusive (nor conclusive) of some parlor tunes—just as a thought-provoker—you are not restricted to the list.

Note: If you’re in the time period, & the tune was popular (and so folks would have been singing/playing it in the home), you’re not going to be wrong.  No party police, I promise. smile

This video shows the difference:

Angelina Baker vs. Angeline the Baker

yes... valid..but i wint be singing any of these tunes from that era so same difference.  just wondering if it was considered parlor or not.   saw it in one of the list so seeing what yall thought.

It's A Parlor Party Square off!

"Edgar" vs. "Mortimer"!

...wasn't exactly what I had in mind for Edgar's debut, but these are simple melodies, the Viola Virtuoso strings are settling in - and I finally felt up to recording something!

Nicely done! That is one really mellow/warm viola! Love it. Although Mortimer sounded lovely, Edgar is the ONE! (Of course, I'm a bit biased.)

@ELCBK You played both Mortimer & Edgar wonderfully! Good tune choice for them! Edgar does have a presence about him, doesn’t he?  Nice, deep tone--

Thanks for joining the party!

This is amazing ! Really good party idea Sharon, I found one from your list and I’ll try to have a go! Thanks for explaining everything. Emily really fab playing I prefer Edgar he is so warm! Even I can tell the difference and that’s saying something . And a bit rusty and  Sharon I say it every time but I always think how easy you make it look. Well done really enjoyable party can’t wait to join off to practice…

@ABitRusty , @JohnG , @SharonC , @Mark , @Katie L, @stringy -

Thank you all for listening!

Can't wait for the rest of you to join the Party!

While Edgar bathes in the spotlight, it looks like poor Mortimer will have to spend time locked up & neglected, for now - but only until I get ready to plug him into the "Shark" amp, then he'll be all super-charged and rarin' to go with possibilities!

Thank you for the Great Party, Sharon!

Hope I can record something a little more challenging for it a little later. 😊

Hey!  @JimandThomas !

Come join this Party!

It's right up your alley, especially with some of the fiddle tunes you've been playing recently!

Here's a list SharonC suggested to chose from:

AND more help in this thread:

Just join us by recording yourself playing & post it here - just don't use a video you've already posted elsewhere on the forum.

@Ripton -

You going to join us in this Party, too?

Btw, who's going to be the next Fiddler to try a 5-string VIOLA?

@ELCBK  Sorry, not me.  I've got enough to do on my 4-string violin smile

Nice job.

I have been playing that for many years on my cello, viola and violin. One of my warmups or go to when Imjust want to play and not get out my sheet music.

I enjoyed that.
