This dance and tune was once done by the Badby Morris dancers who are tragically now non existent, there is no ornamentation at all on the tune as with most Morris tunes, it is to dance to qnd not really anything else. I like this one as it has a dark sound to it which most Morris tunes do not.

The first part is repeated 4  times and then the second part two, the first part two and so on. I stopped after a minute or so but it goes on for about 4 minutes in total.

Yes, you can definitely picture people dancing to this. Very nice tune, Sometimes ornaments are just not needed, the simple song melody is the treat.

Great tune isn't it, really love the dark feeling it has  completely different to most Morris stuff, for me it conjurs up images of the wild hunt, and wiccan rituals, lol

@stringy -

GREAT tune!  Really sounds like a fun tune!

LOVE the rhythm, thanks for sharing this!

...got some jingly bells?

Recognized it from some early Colonial tunes I had gone thru, but I ended up with 'Bung Your Eye'.   Always thought Joe was probably dead in the water... 😣

Noticed some are Welsh, too.

Isn't there usually some Morris dancing at the Mari Lwyd Festivals?

Emily, wouldn't surprise me if there is a Welsh version of this, don't know about the mari lwyd, don't know much about that at all. Morris as a tradition  though is English, but sadly is dying out nowadays. They struggle for new recruits to dance and even though the dances seem random and simple they are fairly technical and go back many hundreds maybe thousands of years,probably back to the pagan saxon  religions.

Mark, your not the only one who can't dance lol you should see me try, extremely funny.
