Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knows or recommends any "gypsy style" or Eastern European songs for the violin? I know "Ochi Chernye" isn't a "gypsy" song, but I'm a big fan of the exotic sound it has, and I'm hoping to find something like it to play. Thanks

Check out video number 51 on the Tutorials page. Pierre made the video at the request of a member who wanted to play a Yanni song, and generally in the gypsy style. It might be what you are looking for.

You might want to look up "Ciprian" scales & songs!  You should also check out the group, Circa Paleo if like that kind of stuff.  Their fiddler, Jenny O'Conner does a fantastic job of playing Ciprian tunes!  Plus, you follow her website, she will send you sheet music from time to time!

You can try some of these:

Shikee Shikee Babba, Patsheeva, Biserica Neagra and even Hårgalåten!

I found just now that Jacie Sites has a 3-part video on learning this ("Gypsy Waltz"), on YouTube, if you're not already aware of it. Thanks for mentioning this tune, I wasn't aware of it. Sounds like a definite challenge. Good luck!

(I'm trying learn a simplified version of "Redeemed" (that Ferret does on the Forum), that Jacie Sites has on YouTube (with her husband accompanying on guitar). Also a challenge at my level.)

ooOOoo!!!  I'm liking this Gypsy Waltz!  How have I never heard this song before?!?  It's kinda bluesy sounding!!  Nice!  I'll have to add that one to my list! :D

I just started learning Patsheeva and it definitely has it's challenges!  I'm playing it at about 1/4th the normal speed right! LOL  The sheet music is really cool though!  I love the scales/mode!!

I can't wait to see everybody else's progress!  I love Ciprian music!!

Did you sign up for her free stuff. http://www.thehotviolinist.com/
I don't know anything about her but a Google search brought me there.

Opportunity is often missed because it wears suspenders and looks like hard work.

Wow! This stuff is one of the many reasons I've started learning to play violin! I can do gypsy jazz and flamenco on the guitar, but the violin has such an amazing voice to it.

Anyways, back to work!
