Time to get cracking on this project. First of all. We need votes. Please vote for your favorite. If you must vote on more than one, please put them in order. Below are your suggestions. Let's narrow it down and pick one by Friday.
After we select the piece, I'll make an arrangement with at least 4 parts.
You will select a part and practice it, I'll help you if you need help.
I'll make a click track for each part and maybe a practice recording.
You will then video your performance for the chosen part, send it to me, and I'll edit and mix them to form a cooperative youtube video.
EXCITING RIGHT?????

I want to play God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen because aolian mode is awesome. From this list I'd choose What Child is This (aka Greensleeves).

I don''t really like 20th century carols, unless of course they''re by Benjamin Britten.

Anathama likes the minor keys :-)
Good suggestion with "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen", I added it and put stars by the pieces that were voted on so far. Also added Hark! the Herald…….
Thanks for pointing it out Barry.

Here is the order so far. Carol of the Bells has two votes and the next 4 have one vote each. Don't worry about knowing how to play the pieces because I'll post the parts and you'll have time to learn them. Please only vote once since I may not take the time to double check.

  • Carol of the Bells **
  • God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen *
  • Jingle Bells*
  • We Wish You a Merry Christmas *
  • What Child Is This *
  • Frosty the Snowman

I didn't see anyone mention 'So this is Christmas', but I don't really know the name of the song. dunno

If you think you can, or you think you can't, you're probably right.

Ok, it's actually called 'War is over' ... I knew I had it wrong.

The other one is a Cliff Richard song I haven't heard in years:

'Mistletoe and wine'

Nice tune.

I absolutely have to vote for "What child is this". It's the Greensleeves melody, and Greensleeves is a piece I quickly want to learn each time I set out to learn a new instrument.

Fiddlerman

Is there a quick explanation for what a "click track" is ?

I am set to be impressed if the 4 parts will sync AND be in tune but I am willing to learn something.   Good use for a metronome(?)

PS  I do not plan to participate thus allowing max opportunity for younger eager members.  I have had more than my share of Xmas Programs violin-student

Oliver, I would be real happy if you did. My plans are to show lots of players and even if you are just there for a few seconds I would love to use you. It's of course up to you but the more the merrier.doublekiss

First of all…I'm back ;-) My summer vacation to my brothers place in Florida got canceled because I was asked to fill in for a band playing lead guitar. It was fun and sure needed the money with all the problems going on in this world today. And on that note, I'm in!

I would suggest, "The War is Over" by John Lennon. I think it would be very meaningful to a lot of people and heck, a bunch of beginner fiddlers can't sound any worse than Yoko's singing parts in that song. Plus if we did that song it would get very popular on Youtube quick.

Otherwise: Silent Night then
