So today I did my first recital. No video... someone was taping the whole thing, and some guy took a picture of me while I was playing, but my Mom doesn't know how to work a smartphone, and my great uncle didn't take his, lol, so nothing but memories.

Happiest bit, is that I survived and didn't faint or die or anything, lol. I was the oldest one by way too many years... went on after a high school girl, and before a middle school girl. So I had at least 20 years on everyone else.

I really liked being in the warm up room, I only absentmindedly paid attention to what I was playing while I listened to the mix of sound created by everyone practicing their own songs.

It was nice group of talented kids. Two cello players, one viola player, two other fiddlers, a vocalist and the rest were all played classical violin.

Anyway, I was second up, so I was able to get my bit over with and just enjoy listening to everyone else. I did mess up in two little spots, stupid nerves, but oh well. I'm done, happy I did it, and happy to find out my level of playing did not stand out as "look a beginner!" among all these advanced students. If I can continue affording my lessons, I can see myself doing it again next year, since it didn't feel so horrible playing in front of an audience.

Congratulations damfino! :D

Nerves aside, it's always a great experience! The feeling of accomplishment after performance is amazing.

Congradulations. Good to hear that nerves didn't get in the road.

I wish I had the nerve to play in front of others. Maybe some day.

With violins there is no fretting over the music.

Congratulations.   I'm glad to hear that you liked it enough to want to do it again.  Besides, I see the Harvest Home sheet music in your picture and you've got that one pretty well nailed.

@damfino - Well cool, and well done, Mandy  - hats_off

Congrats, that's what it's all about...  sharing music... yeah !   Sweet !

EDIT: Out of passing interest - I see HHH is obviously from a book of songs - just curious - when I go for a new tune I just pick up all sorts of info off the internet - not just you tube - but stuff like other versions scored in MuseScore or, "scored" if you can call it that in ABC notation, etc etc... - and I usually end up creating my own "best fit" interpretation of what I have seen and heard....   what's the "Fiddle Tune Book"  you have there ?    Thanks !

I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh - guntohead.JPG

Please make your own, different mistakes, and help us all learn :-)

@ladyeclectic @ElisaDalViolin @OldOgre @Fidelestre @coolpinkone @Uzi @Mark @BillyG @Jim Dunleavy

Thanks so much, everyone! Even though I did flub the song a little bit, I'm glad that I managed to keep going and not choke, lol. Overall it was a fun learning experience. I keep hoping a video will surface, lol. Maybe my teacher knows who was doing the video. It kind of looked like her husband, but I am not sure.

Congratulations! That took a lot of guts, especially with the others all being kids. Good for you for not letting that stop you! Sounds like you handled it well, and I'm glad you enjoyed it and want to do it again.  Happy Fiddling!

Thank you @Marikoli and @LindaMc !

My great uncle is the kind that likes to know how everything works, so after the recital he wanted to see my violin, and wanted to know about the construction, the names of all the bits and pieces, how it's tuned, etc, so that was nice :)

@Fiddlerman & @AnnyJ Thanks! As nervous as I was, it was a fun experience to actually play my fiddle for someone other than myself or my teacher :)
