I think I've de-bugged the problem here but I get a little anxious to hear Heifitz.

I am reminded that I saw him in an early motion picture when I was very young before I was very old !  Long time ago !

Still an artist to watch.

However, Chubbibuniee still needs a new instrument suggestion.  I lust love to hear a dulcimer !

How about the drum set for ChubbibunieeConfused

He can start his own band recording all the instruments one by one on separate tracks.

It might be fun to learn the mandolin or the banjo.

I think I would also like to learn the banjo or mandolin. Wish I had more time...

Did any one report that the mandolin has the same notes (string notes) as the violin?

That would seem to be a big help for learning a new instrument .

I actually read a forum or blog somewhere that stated that violinists should also learn to play the mandolin. I don't remember who said it or if there was any reason to back it up, but I do plan on learning the mandolin (and the ukulele) at some point. I also heard that playing the mandolin is very hard on the fingering hand, but anyone who plays a violin has already toughened the fingertips of their fingering hand.

If anyone here plays the mandolin, I would love to hear their input.

Had mandolin several years.  Left hand difficult but it is all about right wrist.

Isn't the left hand the same as the fiddle? I would have guessed that the right hand would be the problem for us violinists.

Yeah, the left hand (tuning) is same as violin.

The right hand requires great accuracy and strength.  Much harder than it looks.

My mandolin was not the flat kind but I don't know if that is easier or harder.

I think that the fretless violin, bow, etc. is more challenging but then, the mandolin is usually playing (lead) at warp speed so that must be very demanding.  ( I was surprised to learn that the violin is indeed second fiddle to the mandolin in bluegrass.)

Since you already play the violin, viola, piano, guitar and ukulele, and they're mostly string instruments, why don't you try something different like a wind instrument? Maybe a flute? Wind instruments may prove to be quite a challenge though, my sister told me their fingering is all over the place confused

But if you just want to play another string instrument because your string playing skills are already developed, how about double bass or cello? Then you could make your own little orchestra and play all the parts. If you choose another string instrument it'll probably be more fun because you already know how to deal with strings and the theory between notes and so on.

Hope this helps smile

Mmmm? I think it depends on what your purpose is. If you just want to play as a hobby and or whatever reason you have I would suggest harmonica, alto sax (easiest sax to learn. it's in the key of E flat relative to C natural) , a banjo and drums.

My main instrument is the guitar (always will play that way more than any other instrument). Violin is creeping up to 2nd place.

I like to write songs and that's why I learn so many instruments...

Have fun jimi-hendrix

what about the harmonica? believe it or not a regular diatonic harmonica with 10 holes can be a full 3 chromatic octaves. with bending techniques and such. 🙂

Well, since so many people suggested already, I'm just gonna suggest the armonica. I don't know if you heard it before but I think maybe you can try it and Harp! I love the sound it makes!

And harmonica too. I have one but I never knew how to play it. I tried playing 'The Blue Danube Waltz' by ear but it didn't sound exactly as the song but at least I got the main parts correct. And it's small and portable so you can bring it anywhere.wink

I thought that you just left out the h by mistake. I had to look it up. LOL, you learn something everyday.

Since we are getting ready for Christmas and talking about the Armonica. Check this video out:
