Finally got around to filming myself and my violin again today. Three months of no practice has killed the routine, and so to get started again I decided to learn an easy song that I love and already know on piano. Mixing it up with songs I know properly from before Christmas (to maintain morale...) and some bowing exercises (when I notice that I'm using too much shoulder and not enough wrist...) makes for fairly productive sessions. Well – three so far, but it's a start.
Nightmares is in d minor (I think; might be F major) and so I have to focus like mad to play F and not F# that I'm used to from all the other songs so far. Also: Bb! Eeeep!
Anyway, just to prove I'm still alive, here goes:
I'm in the bike garage again so as not to annoy my neighbours. Also, great acoustics!
Should add some slurs to this so it'll be less one-dimensional. I'm still getting the notes down, so bowing falls into second place... But I think if you squint, you can see some actual wrist movement here and there!

Your viola set you free, and you came back; so you must love it.
What a nice way of looking at it! And yes I do.

Is that your mountain bike ?
Nope. I've got a lovely yellow citybike, standing off to my left somewhere in the video. Must have done at least 2000 miles on that in the two years I've had it, and as soon as the last ice melts off the streets I'll be back in the saddle there too!

Glad to have you back here Almandin.
I guess you'll be able to play outdoors in 3 months or so. LOL
ROFLOL! Yeah, possibly. Looking forward to it! In the meantime, though, the bike room is nice. Not too cosy, but cavernous and private...

Loved it. Keep it up
Never give up. Never surrender. More please
Thanks, mate! More will be coming as soon as I feel like I've accomplished something worth sharing.

You're back! That's cool! Nice tune! And nice done!
Thank you!
@Marissieviolissie: Glad to see you back too! So cool about your new violin! I hope to get to hear it when you've befriended it.
Also, must comment on how everyone seems to love my bike garage. So do I, it's the best one in the world. Since it's two floors underground, we even have a separate elevator all the way into it. And the elevator has poetry on the walls – bike-related poetry. It's brilliant! Plus the garage is huge to accommodate the 400 or so students living in my house. Never any shortage of bike stands in there.

Ha..I thought it looked like one of those student bike-rooms
When I lived in Stockholm our bike-rooms looked pretty much like that, so that instantly brought back some memories of me on a 2nd(3rd...4th...)hand bike that was way too small for me and basically way too expensive, when I later saw how much a new one would have cost *lol*
But it did what it was made for, including a pretty neat ride from one end of the big lake to another in the midst of winter
OK, that was way offtopic

Welcome back, Alma, it's really good to see you playing again.
I really don't see you using your shoulder too much, your shoulder has to move some. I think maybe it appear's that way to you because you are making such short bow stroke's, try bowing a little faster and steady using more bow. You did well for being off all that time.
One thing I did notice you're missing.......... The Kittycat.

Thank you! I do try to make longer bow strokes, and I think I'm gradually getting there, but I find that the longer and faster the bow travels, the more I lose control of the straightness... Yeah. Practice...

Yes, sadly so. She doesn't like it down there. (She doesn't like it anywhere but in our flat; she's the world's biggest coward...)
