Special celebration! One year ago I received my viola and have been attempting to learn how to play it! Here are four videos I recorded today.

Innisheer

Isle of Innisfree

C Major Scale (the first thing I played, a year ago!)

Amazing Grace with Improvisation

Mightily impressed, you have come a long, long way. I particularly enjoyed your Amazing grace Impro, gave it a real foot stomping sound. I would be very pleased with The improvement, it feels like your going no where a lot of the time, thats how I feel anyway, until you look back and see the distance you have travelled, great stuff.

I was trying to explain to a friend of mine how difficult these things are to play, only the other night, but its pointless, cant be appreciated unless you do it yourself, welll done;)

Thank you @stringy, and you're right, no one but players like us can really understand just how difficult it can be.

... until you look back and see the distance you have travelled ...

Precisely why I have recorded so much, even at the beginning AND why I've kept my blog going.

@ELCBK and @ABitRusty - Thank you both, I find it hard to believe that I've stuck with it so well, and though I have far to go, I love the progress I've made thus far.

All I can say is wow, one year, your sounding great!

Keep up the constant practice and another year will fly by and you'll be that much better.

Thanks for taking us along on your journey.

JohnG - thanks for posting these!  Honestly, you are inspiring :)     Amazing - these instruments are for sure a challenge, but the rewards are great too.  When I have a GOOD session it just feels awesome.  I try to not let the not so good days get me down, and the good ones make me very happy !

Congratulations on your anniversary!

@LinDee - Thank you, I'm beginning to think that I should have arranged for a teacher, either in person or virtual, but have never been able to justify the cost. I too, try to concentrate on the good days and forget the bad ones (of which I have many), but the progress makes it all worthwhile!

@Katie L - Thank you, when my fingers don't seem to find the right notes, I do a slow then fast scale repeatedly to get them warmed up. I'm still working on a Gavotte to add to the party before it fades into oblivion (though I'll still resurrect it at some point).

I will add my awestruck 2 cents to the mix; very nice and I hope that on my 1 year anniversary I can play as well as you do.
