As above, just over 5 years and not really happy with progress over that time, true that you are never as good when recording for some  reason, but not really happy.

I played this one once before when I first started.

At least now though, I actually hear the bad notes when I am playing, so thats something at least.

I love this song, @stringy. I have it on about 5 Irish CD sets, and I have tried to play it, but to no success. I am so glad that you shared this.

Its just by ear mouse, I play it as I sing it, I have never seen the music for it ever. I first learned it on guitar about 40 years ago, I was in a band at the time, we were not playing Irish music but I heard this so just played, must say though we never played it live as the rest of the band were not into Irìsh, well apart from the bass player amazingly, who also liked Jaco pastorious, and slap bass, what a combination lol.

That was great, @stringy . We love to listen to our Irish CD's. Most are bar room pieces, but we have a lot of the, I don't know, ballads? We go through stretches of it. They are fun to listen to. I just wish I could understand more of the words!

@stringy -

LOVE IT!
You're playing Irish music... in tune & by ear!  That's a lot to celebrate!

I think you are always progressing!

You and I started about the same time.  I get frustrated, too - but pretty sure we're all on the right track as long as we hear things to improve!

Thanks for sharing this!

Abitrusty, maybe we should do a video of us all, singing it, lol when I read your comment an image of us appeared in my mind of us all like the muppet show, swaying singing and clapping in tme, :)

Emily thanks for the heads up, I needed a bit of encouragement at the moment, you know how it gets. You are right of course, progression with this instrument can be frustratingly slow to say the least, but then again, I dont think there is anything like the satisfaction of getting a note in tune. Was thinking when I very first started I said to my missus, if I could just not hit the other strings all the time I would be happy)

Mark thanks for the comment, and also for encouragement as well, really appreciate it.
