@BillyG Ah, I think I remember that one. I think that was when StreetJelly was going through a glitchy phase and not showing some people as being live. I for a while had a habit of keeping another browser open so I could be sure it was working right for people, lol.

I used to use FireFox in the past, I hope it still works. I might throw chrome on my computer just to be safe.
Editing to add, I can usually see shows just fine in Safari, I just can't hear anything, which is why I just always used FireFox for SJ.

Yup - today - in a few hours-time - "Strings on Sunday" revived !
Here are the 4 participants - join in the chat if you like (even better, get up and play after my "slot" (all slots tend to be 30 minutes) - oh - or before the first show, but don't overlap another Strings on Sunday player !
Also, I have to obscure the actual times (they are always shown in YOUR local timezone - so - check the site at http://www.streetjelly.com
Hope to see you there !

You both did GREAT!
Really enjoyed what I was able to hear on SJ for my first time.
Truly admire you for performing live like that - you both inspire me!
Unbelievable bad luck on my end... high wind warnings here (no big deal, right?). Well, our neighborhood & surrounding area lost power and Wi-Fi a little past half way through your performance, Mandy. Tried to get a good connection on my smartphone, but that kept cutting in and out through most of your performance, Billy. Kevin finally got the generator up and running when you said (Billy) you had 3 minutes left!
I'm completely bummed out.
Please do it again, soon!
- Emily
btw, watching the replays now!

Thanks so much for registering with SJ and your audience participation @ELCBK - the truth is - it is the audience that makes it all come alive with the general chat. It really is.
Sorry you missed @lydharp and @Barry - and neither of them set a replay - next time though ! Yah, you'll catch @damfino and myself on replay for the next day or so (forget how long it stays up for - I *think* they made it longer, or did something to the replay mode... anyways...) The "unfortunate thing" in some ways about the replay is that it is only the streamed video/audio - obviously the chat is not to be seen on the replay - which I feel really makes the show. I usually set a screen-capture program running capturing my video and the adjacent chat area - BUT - that fails to capture the audio since the audio stream is directed to the SJ server and I haven't yet found a way to split the audio-stream! Nevertheless, with the recorded video on SJ, I can, after the event, download THAT and edit the audio from that back into my "silent" screen capture. Then you have a really "complete" version of your show... it's in progress at the moment - I'll wait till it's completed and posted to YT so I can drop the link here - finally -
Mandy and I already scheduled for the same times, a week from now ( well, the Sunday - 22 Nov 2020 )

I'm so glad you are both going to play again next Sunday!
It looks to me like you finished it, Billy - so much better than the SJ replay!
You both appear to have a great recording set up - could hear & see everything, when I could stay connected... still no power. (lol)
Will have to ask Mandy about a few of her tunes I didn't quite catch the names of.
Hopefully I'll have time before the next show to get to know the SJ site better. And if I don't have power back by then, the darn generator had still better be holding it's own!
Btw, Billy - just how do we keep from forgetting how to start a few tunes when they're swimming in our heads, among so many?
- Emily

LOL @ELCBK -
Btw, Billy - just how do we keep from forgetting how to start a few tunes when they're swimming in our heads, among so many?
Oh, trust me, it gets worse - start playing one tune - goes fine, hit the B part - and it's the B part from an entirely different tune ! So there's the benefit in having a proper set-list (with a quick-hint at the intro beside each item - for instance, when I *do* make out a set list I'd have, for instance "Ashokan Farewell : D so... ti-do..." ( that's enough for me - key of D, then A..... C#-D) LOL maybe I should always have a set list, and indeed, the intro to any B-parts as well Hahahahah - aye that would probably help a lot !
**EDIT** Actually, the thing I find most disturbing is this - I'll start of playing a tune in a different key from what I would normally use. I won't even THINK about it - it just falls into place - until - the occasional partial chord or double stops - for some reason I have yet to figure out - although I can blindly and unthinkingly play say a tune I normally play in C, but forget, just because the previous tune was in D, or G and end up playing it in that D or G key etc etc - the soloing melody is just fine- suddenly though - the "internal muscle memory" somehow takes over on the partials/double stops and I go ".....DO WHAT ????" And honestly, one day I spent 5 minutes trying to figure out what was wrong (in that situation though, I was also playing a full-tone-detuned instrument F,C,G,D and then I was actually thinking the "notes" oh man... that threw me completely). Seriously, I was close to the point of giving up !

Thanks @ELCBK ! Glad you could make it! It was so nice to have a good audience turnout for our first time back
Sometimes remembering how to start the tune isn't the problem, it's keeping from slipping straight into one similar, haha.
I think the tunes I played were
Harvest Home, Off to California, Boys of Bluehill (all hornpipes), Fig for a Kiss, Garech's Wedding (both slipjigs), Spotted Pony, Crested Hens, Headlands March and then Timmy Clifford's Jig.

Thank you both for your thoughts!
Since I've been experiencing some of these issues I started a different thread, hard telling if I'll get much response from anyone else (already talked to GregW previously, too).
I'll see if I can dig up anything good/helpful.
Thank you, damfino, for the set list (great set, btw)- I heard/knew some, but not all.
Oh! Almost forgot to ask, what equipment are you both using for streaming?
See ya next Sunday! ...nothing else better happen. (lol)
- Emily
Just 1 reason I won't have a pet door - the other 3 reasons are skunks, possums and woodchucks!

@ELCBK - regarding equipment - I'm using a laptop - and what I go on to say may not apply in exactly the same way for folks using mobile devices.
It's all very basic really - although (for laptop) a small financial outlay is really needed.
You need a camera and a microphone (obviously!) - but - certainly for laptop - avoid the use of the internal microphone. That's because (1) they're generally cr4p and (2) prone to pickup of fan-vibrations/noise. You *could* get away with a relatively simple external analog mic plugged into the normal audio jack-socket (line input) - but that can also have issues with levels and impedance matching. The best (well, I mean "easiest") solution is to use a USB mic - of which there are a good number of reasonable quality around. For streaming, I use the "Samson C01U" USB mic, (which is not far off studio quality). There are others like the Blue "Snowball" which are much the same spec and performance. Devices like these give a good clean sound. [ Funny story - I do have other setups for general non-streaming recording-work - but that involves using a small mixing desk and other stuff - just gets over-cluttered for basic streaming - so - when @Barry first suggested SJ, I thought I had better get a simpler setup - and went for the USB version of my phantom-power Samson. It comes with a simple stand (not shock mounted) and in the first show, as I was playing, a viewer in the audience (I think it was @coolpinkone if memory serves) - chatted "What's that thumping noise" - Barry texts back "Oh, that'll be Billy tapping his foot as he plays....." LOLOL - aye - I had the mic (in its stand) sitting on the floor responding not so much to the actual "sound" of my foot tapping, just the transmitted impact through the wooden floor !!! I subsequently set the stand on top of a car-wash sponge .....]
Anyway - that's the mic set-up I use
For camera - a cheap webcam is much more flexible (on laptop) than the inbuilt cam although at a push, sure you can use the inbuilt. I use one of the Logitech things (a kind of mid-spec'd device ... let me think errrr - yep - a Logitech C270 - that's it. [And I use that for all my videos, streaming or general recording ]
So, it's all pretty basic - just the few points above to consider gets you off-the-ground into reasonable quality streaming. There ARE SJ artists with much more complex setups where they are working with other devices like synths, separate pickups for instrument and voice and a small mixing desk - but for basic streaming you can live without it. There is one particular issue worth mentioning now I say that - although I just use the one mic (instrument is not mic'd-up) picking up fiddle and voice - if you wanted to play along to a backing track you would *probably* want to resort to something different (although I have got away with just playing a backing through a small monitor speaker and letting the single mic "listen in" on all of it - voice, fiddle, backing - but - you do need to manually get the levels, positioning of the mic and so on, just right)

......I love the sound & video quality of my smartphone, but there's no way I can see to use it for streaming and chatting - phone has to be set up out of reach.
Yes, that must get problematic.
I'm not a luddite by any means, and I happily embrace new tech - and without doubt both video and audio quality is great on many mobile devices. But, I just hate using them for "highly interactive" purposes - yes - like a text box for chat whilst following a live video etc - it just drives me crazy as things have to get scrolled up or down or sideways etc.. LOL Old Man Bill !!!

@BillyG -

I have to check with Street Jelly, but thinking worse case scenario I might need to have 2 accounts - 1 to stream from my phone and 1 to view/interact from my laptop.
- Emily
...now if only this virus would go away so I can get some new chompers!

@ELCBK - it is my understanding that you can have multiple concurrent logins to SJ (not just on the one platform - which works anyway --- I mean across different devices). I know, way back in the past, I did that on 2 separate laptops - and - it worked (within limitations of my broadband - i.e. the one "watching the stream" would occasionally freeze if I was streaming-out on the other.
I did that as a test to check the real video lag time (which here, turned out to be around 15 to 20 seconds). One of the "problems" on SJ is that - well - depending on how geographically remote one is from the SJ server and how many "hops" the video has to make, there can be a fairly significant lag between the text-chat-stream (which seems to be pretty much instantaneous) and the video. This is disconcerting for the player - I've seen me move on to the next tune, and suddenly there is text-chat responding to the previous tune)
But AFAIK you should be good to go for that set-up with just the one account.

@ELCBK I used to use a cheap webcam and a Blue Snowball microphone. My Snowball got glitchy over the past few months (started broadcasting/recording static), so I replaced that with an AKG Lyra. It's a little more expensive, but with everything being virtual these days, I let myself splurge. It gets a lot of use. I stopped using my external webcam because I like my built in one better, and it's one less tripod to set up.
From what I understand, you can get apps to make your phone work as your webcam, that it something I've been looking into, mainly for streetjelly, because for my other things like my zoom meetings, I need to have access to my phone. But one of my lights has a phone holder, so that would work for me.
And as Billy said, you can be logged in on Streetjelly in multiple places, I usually have a few browsers logged in at a time in case of issues.

I'm so pathetic/not a very good friend, today. Made an ass out of myself, missed you both on Street Jelly because I fell asleep before you even started. I'll just have to keep trying.
I caught your replay, Mandy - I just love your slip jigs! When you play Winifred Horan's version of "Crested Hens", reminds me of how obsessed I was with that tune after I first got my "Mortimer" (and should keep it fresh). I remember in her live performance video, she just called it something like " a little tune from Northern France" - almost a year later before I found out it really had a name (probably said this elsewhere)!
Billy, you don't have a replay - did you save a recording? I know it doesn't really help you if I don't watch/participate during the live stream, but I'd still love to see/hear it if you feel like sharing!
I did learn something I hope will help my viewing in the future. Don't think I should be having any issues with my service (433Mbps?), but Mandy's video stalled for a few seconds - then I noticed the website note about enabling the audio/video (symbol next to padlock), so I did. Or, doesn't it matter? Wondering why I was able to see/hear anything before.
Anyway, will try to catch you live, next time - KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

LOL ! Don't be so hard on yourself. It happens!

I didn't actually set a "Replay" on SJ, but I did set it into "Record" mode - so there is (available to me only) a recording held on SJ I can upload (and rebroadcast/share on YT for instance). I'll be downloading it for myself anyway, so I can easily share it out. [ Oh - unlike the previous one I shared - THIS recording will NOT have the text chat area - SJ only save the video/audio stream. [ You won't see this "Record" button anywhere until you actually broadcast, it appears once the outgoing video stream is established ].
I've actually had a nasty cold over the last few days (first really horrid one in a long time) and my show was compromised by occasional loss of voice, siffling, and a generally dazed-and-confused head as a result of various cold-remedies having been imbibed throughout the day. I took Lyd's advice, and after the show and made myself a nice hot toddy ( or two, actually! ) - a good dram of whisky, honey, hot water, lemon.... I certainly slept well - feel a LOT better this morning!!!!
..... Don't think I should be having any issues with my service (433Mbps?)...
What is this huge number of which you speak - 433Mbps - lordy, I can only dream....

Don't know about that - although - while watching (live) both Lyd and Mandy's shows, they both froze several times - but that could easily have been other local-to-my-router internet traffic causing that. I blame Windows 10 which I have running on another machine - it just goes off and performs Windows updates when it feels like it - fair enough on that one machine - the updates suspend if there is user interaction - but - here - once it starts that you can forget about doing anything else on any other device since it eats all of my incoming 2Mbps !!!! Just wanted to moan about it.... Again.... LOLOL
I'll fetch that local-to-SJ recording and put it (unlisted) on YT - I'll post the link later
