I was downtown Los Angles today to do some guitar work and there was a violin player there, Clayton "something", forgot his last name. He's done 100s if not 1000,s of movie scores like Avatar and really big stuff but one of a few violins he pulled out was a Silver Creek acoustic/electric and it sounded great through the studio monitors. so I asked him what brand it was and he said it was Silver Creek and said he only paid like $400 for it. Well I got home today and bought one online at Musicians Friend and will be here Wed. or Thurs. It sure did sound good today.

This Silver Creek violin is junk. It sounds like a toy compared to my $99 Cecilio. Already contacted Musiciansfriend and they gave me a return number. I can't believe that my Cecilio violins are so much better. What do you guys suggest for me to get? I would like to have a violin that has a built in Barcus Berry pickup because I do jam with many musicians.....?

Yeah, I'm thinking of working with KKmusicstore to get maybe a CVN200 or something and get a local luthier to put in the pick up And check everything out. I don't want to mess with my current Cecilio because it really does sound good. The violin that showed up at my doorstep today (Silver Creek) has a warped neck. NOT GOOD!
I don't know what to say. I was warned not to buy fiddles over the internet and now I really understand. I do believe in the Cecilio brand though... My Cecilio alto sax sounds just as good as my $12,000 dollar sax sort of. It's completely in tune.13

I'm good with kkmusicstore. I'm going to talk to them today and I found a luthier right by me in Newport Beach that said he can install an internal pickup with a 1/4 inch jack with a volume knob for $125 as long as I supply the pickup. For sure I think Cecilio has great quality control and thats the main issue with any China products.
The microphone that works great for string instruments as well as vocals is a Sennheiser MK 4 (made in Germany). I'm going to use it with my black metallic Cecilio for the Christmas project.

Well damn... I just answered the door and it was the UPS man with a replacement violin. I didn't ask musiciansfriend for a replacement. I just wanted to return the other. I gave him my other one with my return slip. Wish I could check it out now but I have to work on some guitar parts and head to LA for studio work in a couple hours

I'm not sure about that mic fiddlerman? Good brand though Maybe check out some review sites? I hate buying from Amazon because I have some bad stories n returning stuff. Musiciansfriend gives you a return number no questions asked. And yes had to open up and check this other violin out...Seems fine ? I'll check it out more when I get home tonight.

Good luck MGN! I like my cvn 500 although like I said i have nothing to compare it with (other than my daughter's teacher's $200, 000 ~ $300,000 violin and of course mine does not sound as good LOL). I like the MV 650, too. When I did my purchase I was debating between the two of them. I chose CVN 500 because I like the sound better when I watched the fiddlerman's review of the two. Let me know how yours is, because I might have enough gift card (one good thing that came with my health insurance)to buy it by next April.
Good luck!

Both the CVN 500 and the Mendini 650 should be here this Mon. Tuseday at the latest. Hey pky are you using the Cecilio steel strings that came with yours. I don't think I posted unless on another thread somewhere that I also returned the 2nd Silver Creek violin as well. I feel a little guity because I kept the bow that came with it and swapped out one of the bows that came with my Cecilio. Well if they say anything, I'll just say I made a mistake. I kept the dark rosin as well. Guess I'm confessing my sins here But how in the world would they sell a violin with a warped fingerboard.
I went to a violin shop today to get Dominant strings and to see if they have more chin rests in stock to check out. Well they were out of stock on Dominants and same old chin rests from last month when I went there. so when I got home I ordered a few sets of Dominants from Musiciansfriend.
I also called a Luthier this morning that lives by me to see if he had any suggestions on what is the best pickup to convert one of my Cecilios into an acoutic/electric and he suggested that I just try a violin pickup made by Headway called The Band. He said that I will be surprised how well they work without having to drill into the violin. it just wraps around the violin. It should be here on Tuesday with my Dominant strings...Will let you guys know how that works out.

MGN, I just used the strings that came with my cvn 500. At first I thought the A sounded weak, but now I think it is coming along. It probably has to do with how i play or my bowing skills -- I'm a brand new learner. I bet if the fiddlerman played with my violin he would have made it sounded a thousand times better.
