As a lot of you know, Mackenzie donates a lot of instruments to the schools.  I have been putting preludes on them at about $13 a pop(I buy 10 sets at a time). If I were a student, I would scrounge nickel bottle deposits to get the $12 additional dollars to get a set of Ascente strings.

As long as the student is using steel core strings they are fine. I prefer synthetic core strings. Many beginners have a difficult time tuning at the pegs and must tune using the fine tuners. For this reason, steal core strings make better strings for pure beginners. Also because they are cheaper.
You should contact D'Addario to see if they'll offer you wholesale prices on bulk purchases based on your donations.
