Ok, so I’m not sure I’m posting this in the right place, but I needed help/advice. I accidentally left my violin in my car last night. I’m so upset and frustrated with myself- I never forget about it! It must be because I wasn’t the one who physically put the case in the car. But anyhow, what should I do with it? It didn’t get super cold last night and it was about 45 when I brought it in this morning. Right now I have it sitting in its unopened case in the coldest room of my house. Is this correct? What should I do?

@Little Prairie Girl When I received my cello from Fiddlershop, it was very cold, December, I believe. I let it sit in its open case and warm up to room temperature, or acclimate itself to the room temp. It got very cold in the back of the FedEx truck. I waited about 3 hours, maybe 4, and then I just used it.  Others may have experienced this and may get back to you. I think, but remember that I am no expert, you should be fine if you just let it acclimate itself. If it did not go below freezing, I would think it will be fine. I didn't even have to do much with tuning the cello!

i dont think you should have to worry either...especially since it was in a case the whole time and temps only down to 45.

Jacqueline du Pré left her Strad cello on the balcony outside her room in Moscow one snowy night because she was fed up with the instrument.

I think it would bean entirely different story if it was left outside in hot weather, humid weather, the sun, in the car, etc. I think heat and humidity would be worse for it.

Thank you all! Yes, it’s fine, I opened it up last night and played it- it wasn’t even very out of tune
