Great idea! I know that I live in an area that doesn't have much of anything for the violin...

Would you have any chinrests that sit up higher? It looks like the one that you use in your videos is pretty high. I would be interested in something like that I think. Anyway, great idea. Is there a list to get on for this?

Thanks!

Yay! Finally a place where you can try out chin rests!

But, looking at the pictures, I think only the Teka model would work for me. I should probably just order that one. smile

FM, thank you so much for the service.

I would be interested, too. I have short neck, so lower one probably better for me.

I'm finally done with travelling this last week, but will be busy with course work for at least the next couple of months, so I will have more time to test them out in April, May, and June.

Would you have 1/4 size available, too? i don't think the one my daughter has on her ceicilio 500 fit her. I would love to have the opportunity for her to try and find one that would fit her as well.

Pky, I have most chin-rests available in fractional sizes but cannot stock them. There would be too much for me to stock at this point. I'm sorry that I cannot provide the service for smaller than 4/4 unless there were many interested.

Are you still interested for yourself?

Here is the list as I have it so far. Anyone interested in being added to the list please copy and paste this list to a "New Reply" and add your name on the bottom.

  1. Music Maker
  2. Gail (already ordered - let me know if you are still interested)
  3. MGN = First person in March
  4. Mr Bison
  5. Mustang ? (might order without testing)
  6. Pky

Hi Fiddlerman and everyone else,

I would like to add my name to the list of those interested in trying 5 chinrests.

On your offer to make a different choice, would it be possible for me to try a Zitsman instead of the Berber, since I already have a Berber?  Or, if you have another center-mounted, over-the-tailpiece model that I could try?  I looked at bunches of them, but it is difficult to tell in a picture.  I also have a Flesch without a hump, so that wouldn't be necessary. The Flesch with the hump is fine to send. Trying not to be difficult.dunno

Thank you for all your very helpful videos!

Okay, I cannot find that kind anywhere, but if you think it will be good for a try, please send it in place of the Berber.

I will do the cut and paste thing to add my name to the list.

Thanks! : )

Sorry Dee, I meant to be answering Gordon. He asked if we ever heard of plucking strings. My answer was intended for that. I use this administrator panel which makes seeing all the new posts much quicker and answering easier but I had them all open at the same time and posted to the wrong one. You may actually move up on the list if Gail and Mustang remove themselves. Thanks for copying and pasting. That is exactly the way I want it done :-)

Hey, FM - I've been wondering for a while... What is that chin-rest that you have? It is raised really high... looks like what I've been looking for.

I use a Stuber MrBison. My luthier built it up about a half inch for me. You may not need that though. It's naturally a bit higher.

It just happens to be one of the ones on my list. The only one on back-order.

Yeah I like the look of it because I enjoy using a small "pad" with rubber bands (kind of like yours) but it doesn't raise the violin very far up off of my shoulder - this coupled with the fact that my chin rest is almost flat against the violin's body, and I find I have to tilt my head very far over which makes my neck and right shoulder hurt after playing for about an hour... I thought maybe a more raised chin rest could help me with this problem. Sometimes I use one of those "Kun" shoulder rests with the arms that hold the sides of the violin... that makes things a little better because it helps to fix the height problem, but I'm not crazy about it as a shoulder rest.

You would probably love a raised Stuber like mine then. It's not all that hard to do plus the Stuber is higher than most anyway.

I received my Stuber this morning and put it on as soon as I got home.  It feels so much nicer than the original chinrest that came with my fiddle.  I'll have a better idea if it's the right one for me after I've used it for a few days, but for now I'm very happy with it.  Thanks!

MrBison, I have the Stuber.  Mine isn't built up like FM's.  I took a picture so you can see how high it is:
