Just wondering how often you guys rehair your FM bow? I’ve had mine since December and I’m thinking it’s time. I’ll most likely buy a new bow $68 vs rehair $58.

does this matter? Is it better to rehair or it’s the same hair anyway? I get a new bow for $10 more.

Hi ryonass (and others).  Another thought would be to save up some of the used carbon bows and sell them on eBay for about $15 each for us apprentice luthiers to practice rehairing.  That would make your cost a wash.

@Irv that’s not a bad idea. I’ll keep that in mind when I get a new bow.

I think I’ll use this as an opportunity to upgrade my bow instead. I’m thinking of getting the 1-star Holstein Pernambuco bow. Does FiddlerShop offer in home trials? @Fiddlerman

Ryon, we definitely offer in-home trials.

I asked FM to send me 3 to try within my price range, tested them blind....didn't realize they had names on them. (hard to read anyways without a strong light and strong readers for my old eyes)

Best deal ever doing the home trial, didn't feel pressured - took 20 minutes, played the same song 3 times, they were all great, but 1 stood out and felt really comfy, my thumb fitted perfectly and it glided like a dream, sounded really clear....shipped the other 2 back....although some people might need longer to decide, I think he gives you up to 2 weeks.

I did ask him to rosin them for me as I think they know just how much to put on and it saved a ton of time with me probably messing it up.

I ended up buying the Holstein 1-star bow shortly after making this post. So far so good.
