Playing my Stentor Conservatoire II is worrying, as I can hear every echo and reverberation inside the instrument and every scrape of the horsehair on the strings, and I'm just hoping it doesn't sound that awful at a distance.
Do fiddles normally sound that bad to the player?
How do you get to hear your fiddle?
1. I can record myself
2. I can get my teacher to play it for me.
3. Is there a 3?

Yeah, the bow noise is the thing I'm least worried about.
The sympathetic resonances annoy me - on a guitar they enrich the sound, but on my violin it just sounds like ringing!
I just Audacity'd myself. It didn't sound too bad, but I'll try again after a few months' more practice.
