It was very annoying to have to keep getting my instruments out of their cases every time I wanted to play. Enter my husband. He made me a really nice wall mount for them. Today we even went to Lowes and bought some 1 1/4” cup hooks for the bows (also works for the shoulder rests).

It is made out of oak. He stained it gunstock oak so it matches the wood floor. The wall is actually a pure very light pretty gray. There is a little dip on each of the brackets, he cut for the holders, that pulls the instruments in. The back of the neck rests on a thin layer of leather. They are not hanging by the tuning pegs. There is space between the backs and the wall.

I love it. It looks so nice over the piano and next to my cellos. Makes my cellos look better quality than they are! They are not in this photo. They were in the photo I shared with my kiddos.

Some of you may have picked up on my hestance to post photos and videos. I will delete this after a while, I just wanted to show you an option for hanging the instruments.

We have no little kids in our house. We don’t have kids throwing things around or running. If I did, these would be in their cases.

... a new variation of Goldilocks and the seven fiddles... or was that Snow White.

It looks fantastic. Enjoy it, Cid!

Thanks.

If you are referring to the seven dwarves, that would be Snow White. Goldilocks. I think ol’ Goldi broke into the Three Bear’s den. She had porridge and a little rest on a bed, until the bears came home. Snow White had a bad apple and a long sleep. But, that long sleep got her Prince Charming. But, she was also cleaning up after and cooking for the seven dwarves. But Snow White didn’t risk being the dinner, like Goldilocks.

Oh, the blissful childhood restful nights after reading nighttime stories!

Thanks for the compliment on my husband’s wall hanger. I told him it had to look nice because we just painted and put the wood flooring in. He came through with flying colors. We have two more rooms to go.

Hi @Mouse and others.  Obviously, I cannot tell if bow material is wood or cf.  If cf, please disregard comment.  If wood, consider hanging bows from frog end since the grain direction of a bow head makes it very prone to breakage.

@Irv Will flip thr one wood. Oh, two wood. The little one that goes with the 1/10 violin is wood, also use it with the little 1/16 at the end my husband carved out. Little one on the end is completely homemade and does play, but we don’t. We didn’t make the strings. We cut down some old ones I had and string them onto it.

@steveduf I think the little one at the end is 1/16. My husband made it using a pattern off the net. He carved out the wood, chinrest, and other parts. Paperclip to hold the chinrest, old violin strings cut down for the strings. I think he is going to varnish it and paint the chinrest and tailpiece.

@Mark He always said he does not like to work with wood. He said this is okay, it is just woodworking around the house he does not like to do.

Very nice! I wish I could leave mine hanging out. Way too dry here in the winter :( I leave my first fiddle and my outdoor fiddle hanging, but they spend all winter out of tune, and very hard to tune until summer.

I have noticed that since I can just grab a violin, bow and shoulder rest off the wall rack, or a viola, bow and shoulder rest off the new wall rack, I am playing much more often, If I have just 15 minutes or so, I will grab ine and run through a scale or two and a little ditty, Quite fun!

Hi @@Mouse and others.  I have several instances at the homestead where kitchen and bathroom cabinet knobs can swing into painted Sheetrock walls.  I protected the walls from damage by the use of white nylon chair leg end caps.  I believe they also make them with felt and carpet caps.  They are held using a steel brad.  You might consider their use on the wall to protect the violin plates from varnish wear.

Exactly cid. Seeing the instrument and not having to take it out helps practice and play much more often. I totally agree. Always leave mine out.
