Hello guys. Iam A new member. You can all call me Winston, if you ever wanna talk, message me. I just bought a Antiqued 4/4 WORKSHOP 'GEMS 1' Violin From Gliga. I bought a case, rosin, bow and a chin rest. I paid $408 dollars and will receive it in 4-5 days. Do you think this is a good violin, do you think it was a good deal? if you want .

Welcome Winston.  I don't know about that violin.  But jump in and start having fun.

Opportunity is often missed because it wears suspenders and looks like hard work.

Thanks. I am now waiting for the arrival. I am still not entirely sure if exactly what to start with it arives. i think I will look for any damage that occurred during shopping and then check the tune. afterwards i will probably just try to rosin hpayer up and play a tune. I am very exited. I cant quite find a name. What do you think of Irene?

Sounds like a good name.  You'll get to sing, play and say Goodnight Irene every night.

Gliga makes some good instruments.  They tend to be on the warm/soft side of the tonal spectrum, but they aren't overly heavy and should open up over time.  My son has a Gems 2 set up with Dominants.  The octagonal bow works well enough.

There is a lot of competition in that price range, so a lot of times the difference boils down to service, setup, strings, and the luck of the draw.  Good luck!

Warm is nice. I'm a little allergic to the metallic sounding.

I have 7/8 workshop/gem 1. I had tried dominant strings, pro-arte, and zyex strings on it, I like it the best when I set it up with zyex. I will try corelli crystal light tension next. I am also planning on making a new bridge for it to see if I could improve the sound.

Hello friend, Isn't the D string aluminum for Zyex and the rest synthetic??? Why is this the case? I always thought the strings would be made the same with the exception of the E string. Sorry if this question seems quite ignorant on my part.

We are beginners here so no question is out of line.
Synthetic strings have a core of perlon (nylon 6) which is wrapped with a metal usually aluminum or silver.  A steel core string is also wrapped to prevent rust and to add color to the sound.

I have a Gliga Gems 2. Pirastro Tonica string work well on my violin so you could try them on your Gliga Gems 1.
