ok, all the vids are usually a nerve-racking attempt at some piece of sheet music we all know. Trying to hit the beat just right, the note pitch just right and make it look good in the process (you know, teeth gritting together, hair a mess, pj's (?) etc.).pink-violin-girl

So... post your practice video, try to make it 5 min or less. Show us your practice routine, maybe a speciality you're trying to master, maybe just running the scales, anything you want to post up is fair game as long as it's violin practice.

Here's mine to start it off. (No criticism allowed... unless you post a vid of yourself first! ...we all know what we're doing and why it happens, that's why we call it practice.)duncecap

I'm very impressed with the much improved vibrato,, you look very relaxed. I'm having a helluva time with my vibrato, it's like i'm wearing a bowling glove, my wrist just won't relax and bend. I was paying particular attention with your bowing, nice straight path across the strings.

Not sure what the song was though.roflI'm kidding.

Even skilled Physician's call it practice.

Nice job, Dennis.    thumbs-up

Here's mine. I also posted this in another thread in the "Share a video" section, but it's the only video I have right now. I picked a short one -- White Coral Bells -- because I can't make it through a longer piece without really messing up. Nonetheless, you'll hear my bow bouncing and hitting an adjacent string. As Cdennyb said, I know that I'm doing something wrong and working hard to try and fix it. I'm open to any and all tips.

When the work's all done and the sun's settin' low,

I pull out my fiddle and I rosin up the bow.

WOW, outstanding form, and the notes are very precise! Great work... Of course since I've posted, I can critique your playing...

Only thing I see was, loosen up and relax... it isn't a test! dancing

That bow sure wanders from bridge to the fingerboard Huh? You'll tighten it up as you progress.

Very nice sound...keep in mind I didn't ask for a vid of you practicing a particular piece of music, on the contrary... just practicing... like doing scales, or whatever you do to limber up, etc. before hitting the sheetmusic.

OK, let's see some more practice time from all you guys... Come on, I know they're out there. You might think they're stupid... but ... well they probably do look stupid but that's what this site is all about... Come on, you aren't the only one out there practicing on something that takes a lifetime to master.

Post those practice vids.thumbs-up

Kindascratchy that was good! How long have you been playing? Is the hitting another string related to the angle of the bow on the string? I know it's my main mistake and you guys will see my horror video next saturday, on my first week violin birthday haha. Cdennyb, I don't do scales for practice though, I have that darn Twinkle from Suzuky #1 with the huckleberry pancake rythm!

What a darn good idea Dennis.
I've been trying to practice Violin 5 for Pirate project, so might do a vid of my practice sess. May also help anyone else who is trying To Practice it, (haha, don't do as I do, do as I say)

KindaScratchy, the one thing that you are not is kinda scratchy.
Good sound and intonation.
The wondering bow is something for you to focus on and it has to do with you using your arm too much and not enough elbow. Practice a little in front of a mirror and use mostly elbow to draw a straighter bow.
Also, your right hand pinky should be a little curved.

Great job to both of you. Can't comment on you Dennis since I didn't post my practice video. LOL

Been trying hard to do part 5 at 120 and 6/8 timing but keep running out of bow. Maybe I should record what I have incase I'm screwing it up somehow!

6/8 ?

The piece is in 6/8.

The question is if you are playing in two or six?

120 = eighth not or 3 eighth notes?

Doh! I want my mummy!! Lol
The dotted long note in 6 beats ( not to be confused by 6x 1/8 notecoins Iin 6/8 the 1/8 note is a beat which is a sixth of a bar.)
I'm counting 1,2,3-1,2,3 as being a bar so the dotted long note is 1,2,3-1,2,3, next bow,1,2,3-1,2,3 .
Does this make sense?dazed

In other words, you are playing it slowly.
You are playing 6 beats at 120 bpm.
Six 8th note beats at 120 bpm each in every measure. ROFLMAOWAT!!!!!

I'm laughing but I don't know why, maybe its just the hysterical laugh of an imbecile!!

 dazeddroolingparty

that must be correct, 6 @ 120 = 1 full bar every 2 seconds.

(isn't 4/4 at 60 tempo, 1 bar = 4 seconds, 1 beat = 1 second?)facepalm

(oh yeah, now you know how I know what a fermata is. imagine my face when I saw that at the end of the bar!!)

no wonder I think I need a longer bow!

You are half right and half wrong. Sorry :(

that must be correct, 6 @ 120 = 1 full bar every 2 seconds.

Sorry, I believe it would be 3 seconds. Every 2 eighths equals 1 second and you have 6 in every measure.

RIGHT.... Yeeeeee Haaaaaaaaa exactlythumbs-upbirthday_balloondancingdancinbunny

Maybe a wheel bow that never ends. Someone should invent one. cheers

Grrrrrrrrr......My attempt to post a practice video failed. I uploaded a video to YouTube yesterday, it was to be used as some part of practice. Was me playing NoirVelour's little song she composed, "Swallow Waltz".

I have searched and searched for it and cannot find it.  Incidentally, Noir's, there already is a song of that name, it's very old, was written by "Mozart".

Can someone tell me how to find the thing ?

Very frustrated, took me two hours to record and upload it.
