As Albert Einstein so aptly put it: "Make it as simple as possible, but no simpler."

Agree, lesson learned (again)

I have posed on other platforms about some of my experiences in learning to fiddle. We may have run across each other on one of those.

Submitted viola 3 today. My husband was kicked down to the basement while I did a bunch of tries so I would not pick up his computer clicking noise. He must have liked it down there, he is encouraging some cello pieces. Actually, he works on little projects down there.

There are 3 cello pieces that I actually can do, so I will practice and hopefully submit them to give Fiddlerman some background. Oh, the lovely cello. So much depth and soul, except when I do it!

Well done @Mouse !  Good stuff!

I am scaring myself - I have a good number of parts already done and uploaded to a share-point on Dropbox (none actually submitted to FM as yet - but asap really) - and when I say a "number" - I am desperately trying to get all 15 parts - but - right now I can't get my hands on my friend's cello....  There are other ways to get the cello part (faked ways - like octave dropped viola parts - which get "close" to the proper timbre, but only close ) so I'd rather avoid doing that if possible.

We'll see, we'll see...   I REALLY want to do a full 15-part version of my own, because it is a GREAT arrangement, and I just want to hear what it sounds like, and how they all work-together before I posted/submitted all the individual parts.

This one is going to be just AWESOME @Fiddlerman

The Tim I knew was (is) a ukulele player from Surrey, England. It wouldn't surprise me if he turned to the fiddle.

It's pretty cool to jump straight into one of Fiddlerman's projects; enjoy!

A 15-part version of your own, wow I bet that is going to sound awesome @BillyG ! I just finished all the violin parts and put them altogether - not as great as the Fiddlerman version but I still loved it!

I hope we get a lot of submissions for this. I can't wait to hear the final output!

Good on you @Jols, excellent !!!  Yup, I haven't really started to look at the new GOThrones scores yet - so that'll be next on the list....

LOL - dunno about my 15-part thing sounding awesome - just wanted to have a fair shot at it.   I don't have the necessary control for the subtle expression/dynamics to really do it justice - but so far here's 7 of my individual parts mixed down ( Vln 1 and 5, Vla 1 and 5, Vc 1 and 5 and finally Vln 4.  The "interesting" part to me is part 3, I find it REALLY brings the whole thing to life musically.... (well, all parts are important of course!) - so I'll be recording that and part 2 later today or tomorrow and adding to the mix !

I've been asked this question a couple of times by other players regarding positions - here's a clip from the online chat where Vibhavi Attigala asked the same - and my response follows....

Apr 8, 6:24 PM

Vibhavi Attigalaguys when we have a sheet music suppose we have a note D to play how do we know whether its open D or which positions D?

t.gif
Apr 8, 8:02 PM

_BillyG__ (Admin)Hi Vibahavi - really - it does not matter at all - please play it the way that is ether "easier" or "preferable to your ear" - there will be MANY MANY players' tracks mixed down - if you were soloing the piece - yes - you may well have a real choice to make for timbre etc - but really here - - it matters not. Please play it the way you "feel it" !!!!

I'm pretty sure Pierre mentioned in one of his tutorial videos that the "choice is yours" for positions etc - feel free and do what you are most comfortable with.

Is there a click track for cello 1 or do you use one of the other one?  I have only been playing about 1.5 weeks but I would like to try.  Please forgive if this has already been answered.

Thanks!!

Use one of the other click tracks. It will give you the beat.

:) TY @Gregw - yeah, the vibrato "comes and goes" (get it ?)....   It's just a subtle finger-style vib, can't really properly control the wider wrist or arm modes yet - and well, I don't spend much time trying those....  Maybe sometime !   What was it I posted earlier - the 7 takes version if I recall - it's up to 12 now.  The last 3 will be the 2nd-part for all instruments !  Lot of fun ! LOL

@BillyG

I didn’t think we could use email? I went to Google Drive and Shared with him, like I did before.

I am going to do 2 or 3 cello parts, if I can. Dealing with a family death (not COVID-19 related) at the moment, but it is a good side track, so, I might be able to do it. I will see about it tomorrow. I pm’d Pierre about my viola parts. Not sure if I should resend tomorrow if I don’t hear back.

finally have a few days off from work. They needed to re-deploy me to the ICU so it's been long hectic days. I will work on my videos and submit them before the deadline. Sunday best or surgical scrubs?

Sorry to learn of your loss there.   The email question - well - yes, and no @Mouse - as far as I understand it, you can email LINKS (be they on DropBox or whatever) to Pierre, but no way can you email the actual video files - most mail clients will throw their hands up in horror because of the size of the attachment....  So THAT'S the email I was referring to.....

Ok @BillyG, the email reference confused me. Thanks for explaining.

I don’t understand why my 2 viola parts were not received. I checked and Pierre is the one I shared with and it was the correct email address. I will wait until he responds to my pm before I do it again. Not sure if it would do any good to submit the cello, if I do it, because the viola didn’t go through and it would be done the same way. Maybe he just hasn’t checked his email and seen the link yet, but I think it was last Friday or so that I did it. Can’t remember exactly. No biggy. It was fun doing it and it really helps with me getting timing right for an entire song. I am so bad at that. Well, need to get ready for my second Facetime cello lesson. Have to have my device charged and then get it set up and angled correctly so I will be ready.

@Jols - I recall you mentioning something in the past (the previous project) about having submitted video but weren't included - just drawing your attention to the list of parts Pierre has in the post #53 (above) ---- I notice you wrote you were submitting your parts (in your post) - but - I don't see your name on the list....

It's not easy to manage all these submissions, and it's maybe just a technical/administrative slip (my video part was not present either, but I know Pierre has it) - but - for your own peace of mind - it's worth checking !!!!
