@Ripton - you're very welcome - if you can "slot in" over the later part of my schedule - life and other day-to-day plans aside - then that would be great.

Or - pick ANY time (slot and duration) that suits you....  it's all good !  The magic words are, as said by FM "the more the merrier" - and there is no "judgement" on SJ - we just do what we are currently capable of doing.... it is not a "contest".... it is a live "party" / "ceilidh" / jam (kinda) if you can solo-jam - well you know what I mean

I'm only on "early" because it is gonna be easier for me here in the UK.... so in fact ANYONE who wants to "steal my last 30 mins or so" is welcome - because - for me - I start at 11:00pm UK time - and by THAT time of day I'm usually only thinking "sleep now"....   so don't hold back, just STEP IN !!!!  ( it will lessen my embarrassment at being a relative noob player trying to fill in a full hour - heck - not that I care about that....  ) LOL

I seriously recommend not copying my mistakes. D'oh - guntohead.JPG

@Georganne that sounds very very cool and very very fun.  I have read a bit here and there of the "sled dogs" and I find them fascinating.   I love the whole Freezing Alaska, dogs, sleds... etc.   I have never been in a cold environment.. I find it fascinating and yet scary / maybe the word is adventurous.  I hope so much some day to go to an icy cold land and spend some time.

And I can't wait for more people to sign up for Fiddlerman Jamboree!!!!!

Hello, BarryNelson. Keep in the loop with all the news and folly surrounding the StreetJelly community.

Happy New Year!  We're about three weeks into the new year, so we should all have forgotten about our resolutions. Now it's time to roll up our sleeves and start working on the real goals for 2015. We are no different at StreetJelly. We have a number of initiatives currently under way. Here's the short list...
  • Beta-testing new broadcaster. A few of your fellow musicians have been helping us test out new broadcasting software. Very shortly, we'll be streaming in full MP4 Stereo, and viewable on iPhones / iPads.
  • Mobile App. Shortly after we are streaming in native video for mobile devices, we'll be releasing a StreetJelly mobile app!
  • Marketing Campaigns. We will be concentrating in 2015 to bring more viewers from the general public to the site. Be on the lookout for "Musicians in Malls", our "On the Road" series, and more.

Love Song Night 2015
Love Song Night - February 14th

Some people wanna fill the world with silly love songs...

Date:  Saturday, 2/14/2015
Time:  All Night!
Why:  Share your night with all those that love you on StreetJelly. Get ready for mushy love songs!

Open to all musicians and lovers.

Musician Marketing Tips:  Be Prepared

This is a simple tip, but one that is often overlooked. Be prepared before you start your StreetJelly show. Yes, StreetJelly was built around the premise of both performing planned e-concerts, as well as impromptu jam-from-the-basement shows. But remember what you look like when you start a show and fumble around in a state of unpreparedness. No theater manager or night club owner would allow you to take the stage and let you stand there tuning your guitar and staring off into oblivion on what song to start with.

The reason, it bores and drives away your audience!

Here are a few suggestions:

  • Have a set list ready with at least 5 or more songs to play.
  • Use the StreetJelly repertoire feature to jog your memory of what you have previously performed.
  • Try starting your shows with the same song each time. This will get you warmed up with a familiar tune.
  • Don't rely on "anyone have a request" as your next song. Most viewers really have a hard time guessing a song to request. And unless you are a human juke-box, you probably won't know the song, anyway.
  • Tune your instruments BEFORE you start broadcasting. No one wants to watch the "tuning song" for the 100,000th time.

OK, I got convinced to participate regardless if I have to call in sick at work that day! Ha.

I took the 7pm PST slot but will probably only manage a 1/2 hour as I don't have a lot of long duration tunes to play. I do have a new one I've learned since the last live performance (errr practice) show. Gotta wait until the Jamboree to hear it though. You'll like it, it's gonna be really different and a first time thing for me.

Anyway... off to practice some more.

OK, so now I finally have the PC working for both Aud and Vid. I should be free the 21st so hope to fill a slot soon. I admit I still have MAJOR performance anxiety and can't just saddle up and git er done. I'm considering sneaking in a slot on Street Jelly at some obscure hour and giving it a whirl. I have seen a number of folks broadcast "Test" or "Practice" sessions.... Then again, I wonder if I want my "Debut" Broadcast to be an obscure hour when (I hope) no one is around or man up and advertise my grande debut... If I could only make it through a few songs with out stumbling during regular practice.

Hey Ripton.. you will do fine.

I am so stage frightened... I mean I don't even remember last time. It's a blank.. I can't remember one thing I said.

But  The one thing that made me feel better about it was doing the test beforehand.  I picked an odd hour and one or two showed up and I just gave a little test. Boy oh boy did that help... it seems so much easier than making a recording.  I am not sure why.

I used to worry about the critiques.. but now I just am there to have fun and play with friends.

Don't get me wrong I am still a bundle of nerves.. I really wanted to go on early .. but I work... AND I can better enjoy the rest of the playing if my stint is over.   :)

Needless to say I have my 5-7 songs set to play.  One is if-y.  And now my practice sessions starting tonight are STREET Jelly sets only..... 12 days to go...

See I am already rambling nerves.... Oh.. nevermind.. I am alway rambly.. :)

ATTENTION all Fiddlerman.com Members.  IT is not to late to join.   If you are wondering about Street Jelly and would like to just hop on and play for 15-30 minutes, it is not to late.  PM myself or Barry if you have questions.  I'd love to see more from the forum have a great time.

Yes, you'll do fine, @Ripton . Doing a quick test beforehand is a good idea for several reasons: 1. To test your equipment, 2. Get over the first-performance jitters and 3. It will give you a thumbnail on the main board when you schedule your Jamboree show.

I was really nervous for my first StreetJelly show, but it gets much easier after the first one. Folks there are very friendly and supportive, just like here. It's great practice for getting over performance anxiety.

BTW, I am still planning to participate on the 21st. I haven't booked my show yet because my schedule for that day is a bit uncertain, but I'm sure I'll find a time to squeeze in a show.

I'm sure @Barry posted in another thread somewhere about "who was on and when" and Barry also dropped his planned schedule from 1 hour down to 30 mins to avoid "hogging time" - I have done the same (but for other reasons - basically to avoid boring you all to death) and - now it is getting nearer the time and we are getting more contributors (we ARE, aren't we, hint hint...) the extra 30 min slot will be useful for others.   If no one takes it up I'll probably just keep on going.....

I'll try to find that other post and mention the changed slot there as well....

here are a few of the open time slots. Go to streetjelly.com and scroll down the board (will most likely have to click on see more artists at the bottom of the page) and look for the fiddlers signed up to see time slots reflected in your time zone.

There is a 15 minute spot after @Feathers  before me. then there is a 30 minute slot after me before @coolpinkone   , then a 30 minute slot after her before @cdennyb  and a 30 minute slot after Denny. also later slots open after @Georganne

So, plenty of time slots still open to fit your needs. Please sign up to get your chosen slot. Lets make this the best fiddlefest so far. Many, myself included, will be playing new material.

@ripton - the "slot length" is just advisory - put it in your headline like "FiddlerMan Jamboree (30 mins)"  etc - it's just so other folks know where to slot in to avoid more than one of us playing at any one time.....

I may be able to join in for a 15min or so slot. I'm just waiting on confirmation of another commitment first. Is there anything available pre-10pm EST?
