South Wind - Violin
Not really a video, just the sound, but this is a playing session of one of my songs I recorded the sound of.

I will quite often just record myself on my phone when practicing, but it is not set up to actually make a video recording. I just set my phone on a table beside me and touch to record. Making an actual video distracts me and I am not concentrating enough on my playing when I do that.

I have been working on this song since I traded a violin in for another violin. The luthier played it. I said, "That is it. That is the type of song I want to play. Just pretty songs with a beautiful melody." I am not really interested in playing a lot of jazzy, wild, etc songs. I like songs where you can actually hear a pretty melody. Then he played some more.

He handed the violin back to me so I could play it some more and compare it to another one I was considering, I had finally lowered my violin options to two. A little while later, he came back with the sheet music. It had three lovely songs on it. I played this song and fell in love with it. It actually has some spots that make me want to rush it. Those pesky 8th notes! Whenever I see them, it cause me to race.

It is not a fast song, probably a tad faster than I do it, but I prefer it this slow. This practice or playing session was not too bad, so I decided to share it.

@Mouse -

The Southwind Waltz is a beautiful Irish tune - you know I love a waltz!

❤ LOVE ❤ how you played!

Did you know there are lyrics to this?

Really appreciate that you shared this. 🤗

Nice to know you figured out you're a fiddler at heart - I prefer melodies, too (sometimes with a bit of embellishment 😆)!

...would also sound lovely on your Viola and Cello. 😊

If anyone else is interested in learning this, there are several good video tutorials available on YouTube and sheet music at thesession.org

@ELCBK, not a fiddler at heart, nothing wrong with that ... I just prefer pretty songs above busy songs, mostly. This type, slow, and allowing emotion or whatever when playing, is what I favor, when playing, not always, but 90% of the time. Some fiddle is fun, if it isn’t too busy, or beyond what I am currently able to play. It is easier on my cello, but I like it there for learning purposes, still prefer the slower songs, there, too. Just a great learning music form, for me, with cello.

Well played @Mouse !

This is a coincidence - just yesterday after browsing some of the books GregW mentioned in the other topic, I listened to this tune on youtube (on celtic harp) and thought it was beautiful… and today you play it.

I favor the slower pieces too :--) (which is all good, since I can't play fast !)
