A fellow carver at a local community senior center is a twelve year old male (home schooled) that has played violin for six years.  He currently is renting a 3/4 size violin (brand currently unknown to me).  He needs to play a 4/4 sized violin due to his increasing size.  I have offered him a pick of one of my purchases upon his approval without fee.

Initial group consists of two violins which he is to play for a week.  A notebook is being kept to record daily reactions.  A rejected instrument will be swapped for another until the group of possibles is exhausted (sample group of 12).

The experiment started on March 4, 2020.  He is currently trying a Glasser carbon fibre violin (metal core strings, cecilio cloth case, stock perfection pegs) and a Cecilio CVN 600 violin circa 2010 (fiddlerman perlon strings, cecilio vinyl case, upgraded perfection pegs, and 2 fiddlerman carbon fibre bows).

I will record his reactions and updated selections on a weekly (as schedules permit) basis.  I hope that he is not unduly influenced by appearance or this could get ugly.  We will see.

@Irv -

What ever happened with this experiment?

...I cringe at the thought of metal core strings on the Glasser! 😖

Good question, ELCBK.

What gives, Irv? 🙄

That was one of my more ignorable experiments.  A few months later, the boy’s father dumped the violins on my step in the middle of the night.  They kept a violin case.  Nothing else to report.

@Irv -

Sorry to hear that - not very nice of them.

Guess people will always bring unpredictable factors into an experiment. 😒
